• Xidó San Miguel - Participants will begin with a brief introduction to one another and a tour of the encaustic gallery. Following this, they will proceed to the studio where painting stations are prepared. The encaustic workshop will cover all the essentials, including how to make paint, the use of commercial paints and their applications, as well as supports, grounds, and techniques such as paint application, fusing, glazing, inscribing, and mixed media approaches. Safety, materials, and demonstrations of paint application, glazing, and fusing will also be included, with a focus on achieving a smooth surface. There will be demonstrations on incorporating collage, creating lines, and adding texture. Special emphasis will be placed on developing a unique encaustic language for each student. The instructor will discuss and demonstrate the creation of multiple layers and special techniques like inscribing. On the first day, time will be dedicated to understanding how gas torches are the perfect tool for moving and fusing layers of color. Participants will leave with at least one completed painting, often more. Techniques are clearly explained and demonstrated, and written notes are provided.

I have the most experience in using the encaustic technique and teaching than other teachers in San Miguel de Allende. I can move from abstract to figurative painting to encourage and help students to create their own visions. Since the class is in my private studio, I have collections of materials and tools at their disposal. Because of my background in the arts, both as a teacher an exhibiting artist, I can guide and advise each person personally.
