Alberto Aveleyra, an ethnohistorian at the National School of Anthropology, serves as the curator for the Archaeological Exhibit at the Historical Museum of San Miguel (the House of Allende), which was established in October 2022. Alberto is a published author and a leading researcher at the site. The renowned magazine Arqueología Mexicana recently featured his theory on the Cañada de la Virgen archaeological site (Arqueología Mexicana no. 186, 2024). His work and other articles can be accessed on his academia.edu page. Due to limited government support, Alberto funds his research through tours he conducts at the site. Although he has no reviews on TripAdvisor, his tours are available on Airbnb, where they are highly rated.
His research suggests that the site may have been the sanctuary of Colhuacan Chicomoztoc, “The place where they have ancestors” and “The place of the Seven caves,” believed to be the origin of the Aztecs and Toltecs.
