Additional Information

As I (Albert Coffee, vaccinated) guide you through this magical place, where I had the privilege of participating during the 2004 excavation field season, I’ll share what I have gleaned through personal hands-on experience & years of study about ancient Mesoamerica, the legends & wisdom of local people.

I am a graduate of Louisiana State University and federally licensed tour guide. This special tour includes years of documented legends, wisdom & memories of the elders of the ranch communities on and around the historic location. You will hear about each place and its cultural significance as you journey along the path the ancients took to reach the pyramid.

I’ve taken 20,000+ people on tours since the site opened to the public in 2011. My passion is relating information that is just coming to light in an area recently investigated in an enjoyable way. I hope to see you soon.

Excellent half day trip - Albert was a great guide. We're really happy we took the trip to the Cañada de la Virgen pyramid. A less visited and much less crowded gem near San Miguel.

Informative and Entertaining Tour - Excellent tour, well worth the time and money. Albert is a very knowledgeable guide, having spent many years researching and exploring the site. The site is beautiful and interesting and we really enjoyed the experience. As others have noted, the tour requires about a two mile walk, and there is little shade and no water. Highly recommend.

Great tour very informative - Climbing the pyramid, crossing the sunken patio in front, Albert Coffee was very articulate in explaining the history and the actual excavation.

Informative and Interesting Tour - Great half day trip to learn about ancient cultures indigenous to the area. Our trip was led by an archeologist who has a very close working relation with these ruins. We learned so much. Be prepared to walk and climb on uneven surfaces. Highly recommend.

A must do when visiting SMA! - Albert is so knowledgeable and makes the tour interesting and fun. Wear comfortable shoes to walk in, bring some water, a hat and pesos for tacos after. Great way to learn about Pre Hispanic history. It looks daunting but you can climb the steps easier than you think. Really cool experience!

Superb Day at the Ruins - Albert provided a detailed and excellent overview of the history and ethnology of the ruins, giving a full understanding of events and circumstances leading to it's rise and decline of power and influence. He combined it with information about paleoecology and astronomy to enhance our understanding of the site. Well worth the trip.

Must do tour in San Miguel de Allende - Do not miss this if you are going to San Miguel de Allende. The tour was very well organized. Things ran on time and very smoothly. Albert was very knowledgeable, an amazing guide. The site itself is incredible. The tacos at the end of the tour were a nice surprise and delicious (there were vegetarian options as well, which was fantastic). Highly recommended.

Great tour could use improvements - Tour was very interesting and guide, Alberto, was full of info. The description of tour lacks complete information. . You have to walk 2 miles total. 1/2 of it uphill, rocky terrain and very, very minimal shade. Thank goodness there was a breeze. The guide should refrain from his political opinions during the tour.
