Breathtaking at night too! - We stayed at a castle/hotel in San Leo and could see the fortress from the distance…you must visit…you can drive into the little city and there is plenty of parking and a shuttle, but we walked from g the parking lot. We spent about an hour up at the prison/fort…seeing the little town and eating two amazing meals after was worth it.

Visit to the castle - Stunning castle located on a hill with a panoramic view, reachable by shuttle bus, ticket for one euro, or with an uphill walk of about ten minutes, where the alchemist Cagliostro was imprisoned for his revolutionary ideas. The prisoners' cells and the rooms with the various painful means used for torture that led to death are evocative and gloomy.

Positive and unforgettable experience - Truly unique and great value place. Long walk from the parking lot, I didn't know there's a shuttle that takes you up there

To visit - A visit to the fortress is definitely worth it, as the whole village and the ancient churches of the country. The castle is well preserved even if the furnishings and other accessories are scarce Excellent view from the walkways The ticket price is right

Rich in history - The intrinsic history of the place is beautiful, rich in esotericism and mystery. On the other hand we talk about Cagliostro .. well maintained, a little 'too rebuilt to "modern" to see ..

Interesting - Beautiful fortress built on a practically impregnable rock. In the castle there is a beautiful weapons museum and a very interesting multimedia museum which tells the story of the three most famous characters who passed through San Leo, namely San Francesco, Dante and Cagliostro. of the latter you can visit the cell in which he was locked up until his death. The castle can be visited completely independently as there are no staff even at the cash desk which is self-service. Only one person at the book store which among other things also sells cold and hot drinks.

visit - Being in San Marino we decided to visit this place. From the road it seemed like there was a huge distance to get there, but walking calmly we reached the top. A very beautiful and culturally valid place from a historical point of view. Definitely worth visiting.

The only drawback: walk to the fortress! - Fifth visit to San Leo and the most challenging. Compared to the previous ones I had to leave the car in a paid parking lot and face a climb for me, sixty-five, really heavy. I don't remember if in previous visits you could get by car higher or if the fact that she arrived at the square of the Fort upset, breathless and sweaty is due only to age, unfortunately. I was irritated by the fact that I could not find staff at the entrance: there is a device to pay by debit card or credit card. I had difficulties and I phoned the number on a sign to get directions from a kind lady. The Fort dominates majestically from the highest point of the cliff: ideal fortified position on the border between the Malatesta and Montefeltro lands; it assumed its current appearance after the mid-fifteenth century. Until the nineteenth century it had a reputation as an impregnable fortress, so much so that Cagliostro (who died here in 1795) and many anti-Papal patriots were locked up there. In various rooms you can admire weapons, furnishings, ceramics, machines and instruments of torture. In the cell of Cagliostro, where fresh flowers are placed, I still felt an extraordinary feeling of mystery and a particular emotion. In the room for tourist information, you can go to the bathroom and buy, in addition to various souvenirs, also coffee tokens. The terraces are a panoramic balcony overlooking the Valmarecchia, at the profile of Mount Carpegna and the nearby Rocca di Maioletto.

Voucher did not work! - Voucher did not work so we had to end up buying tickets anyway. On the other hand, San Leo is amazing and the fort is worth the visit!
