Discovering Hidden Gems with Angel

The sun was just beginning to rise over the horizon as I found myself in the backseat of Angel’s taxi, heading out of Old San Juan. Angel, a passionate local with dreams of starting his own tour company, had convinced me and my group to explore the lesser-known side of Puerto Rico. As someone who thrives on adventure and the thrill of the unknown, I couldn’t resist the opportunity to see the island through the eyes of a local.

Our journey began with a drive through an African village, where Angel shared stories of the people and their rich history. Exploring the Iconic Indian Cave

Next on our itinerary was the famous Indian Cave, a location that has graced the silver screen in movies like Pirates of the Caribbean. As a former professional surfer, I’ve always been drawn to the ocean and its mysteries, and this cave was no exception. The volcanic rock formations were awe-inspiring, and the petroglyphs carved into the stone told stories of the Taino Indians who once called this place home.

Standing on the very spots where movie magic was made, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of wonder. The views from the cave were breathtaking, with the ocean stretching out as far as the eye could see. It was a perfect spot for capturing memories with loved ones, and I took full advantage of the opportunity to snap some photos.

After our cave exploration, Angel took us to a local food kiosk for lunch. Having tried Mofongo several times during my stay, I was eager to see if Angel’s favorite spot lived up to the hype. It did not disappoint. The flavors were rich and authentic, a true taste of Puerto Rico that left me craving more.

As we sat and enjoyed our meal, Angel regaled us with stories of his life on the island and his dreams for the future. His passion for sharing the beauty of Puerto Rico was infectious, and I found myself inspired by his dedication to showing visitors the real heart of the island.
