The guided tour will connect the most important landmarks: the ‘old’ church, the ‘modern’ church, both devoted to Santa Maria delle Grazie, the Monastery, and the new sanctuary.

The old church from the middle of the 16th century has an extremely straightforward exterior, and its interior consists of a singular baroque-styled nave. There is a second entrance to the convent, which leads to the cell of Padre Pio and the crypt where his body was initially placed before it was moved to the nearby sanctuary.

The journey continues with the ‘modern’ church, which was specifically built at the request of Padre Pio, intending to suitably handle the considerable influx of thousands of pilgrims that increasingly visited San Giovanni Rotondo.

The excursion wraps up at the Sanctuary, a design of architect Renzo Piano and one of the biggest churches in Italy with a capacity of up to 7,000 individuals.
