San Francisco North Beach Foodie Tour
Explore one of San Francisco's most popular neighborhoods for foodies. Go beyond the norm and discover North Beach’s lesser-known treasure trove of locally renowned delis, cafes, bakeries and meat markets.
What You Will Do
- Follow a foodie expert and guide on a jam-packed shopping tour of North Beach’s notorious restaurants and food scene
- Discover the culinary wealth this district has to offer, and go beyond the fine Italian cuisine it’s known for
- Visit iconic outlets like Mara’s Italian Pastries, Little City Market, Victoria Pastry Co., Molinari Deli, Café Trieste, Tony’s, and Liguira Bakery
- Buy delicious dishes and treats like homemade cannoli, Sicilian sausage, New York style coal-fired pizza, legendary focaccia, and gourmet coffee
Street parking is limited but parking garages are available on Filbert. Bring a shopping bag and cash, as most of the establishments do not take credit cards. Please note that tastings are not included in the price of the tour.

Chef Joseph is informative, enjoys his tours and culinary discoveries and San Francisco history.
I really appreciated the depth of the tour (we visited or went by every place listed on the guide sheet!) -- but I appreciated the pace even more: we weren't ever hurried, nor did it drag. Chef Joseph is a great host. On our particular tour I also enjoyed that several locals were in attendance; it was nice to hear their points of view as well.
Chef Joseph is knowledgeable about the history of North Beach as well as the current goings on in the area. He was entertaining and the pace was perfect. So much packed within 3 hours! An entertaining tour for locals and tourists alike. I will recommend this to all my friends. Looking forward to doing the Mission Area Culinary tour too.
Very knowledgeable and entertaining.
A lot of the places I could have done on my own. I've lived in SF for so long. Only reason I went was because I won a free tour.
The guide was very knowledgeable about the area and current.
Chef Joseph was great. Very knowledgeable, friendly and engaging. I highly recommend taking any tour from him. What made the tour great is you can tell he loves what he is doing! And you can't beat the price.
Knowledge, length of your, tid bits of local items, food stops and overall demeanor of Chef Joseph.
We were a group of 8 gals who thoroughly enjoyed the walking tour with Chef Joseph. I suggest that you do the walking tour the first day or two of your visit to San Francisco as Chef Joseph shares wonderful information on the resturants and shops in the North Beach area. And he probably would do a private tour for you if it worked out for him.
Most people go to North Beach just for the restaurants, but don't know anything about the other local businesses. So it was very interesting that this tour focused on many of those local shops (pastry, pasta, truffles, focaccia, etc.). This along with our guides various tidbits about local history & stories made the tour very interesting. The only negative was the recommendation for the U.S. Restaurant. We had lunch there and food was mediocre at best.
Very informative. Great walking PACE..lots of stories, other than of Food!! Nice sized group. Excellent knowledge of SF
He was a very interesting gentleman with a LOT of insightful information about the city. I would definitely recommend him to anyone visiting San Francisco!
Very fun and informative.
It was fun! The docent enthusiasm.
The Culinary Gems of North Beach was a very relaxed tour, with a wealth of information on the businesses in North Beach and history of the area. Chef Joseph did a great job and we really enjoyed the experience.
I've done all of Joseph's tours: Emperor Norton, Mission Food Tour, and N. Beach Tour. They're all fantastic for different reasons. I think my personal favorite is the Mission Food Tour for the usefulness it'll serve for me in my future shopping and eating in the Mission, a neighborhood that I find easy to visit.
Very interesting and entertaining! Lots of fun and a great way to get to know the city.
