Captain Alan was great. Problems with the boat were the issue. We had issues with the engine (quit running), and due to little to no wind, we were stranded for a couple hours. Staff did a great job getting us back to shore safely, and we did see a whale, a pair of dolphins, and multiple sea lions.

I liked the captain but it seems to me that since the weather was bad he should have known that before we left the boat slip and returned our money. As it was we got 2 of the 4 hours and paid full price for a short tour around the harbour. He promised to give us a discount if we were ever here again, but only a verbal agreement and who knows when we will be back or whether he will remember.

Past 5 years, every year we take a beach holiday with a sailing tour included, I have had great and memorable experiences sailing in Greece, Egypt, and LA. This one has been a huge disappointment. While I booked the trip, I was told that it is focused on marine wildlife and we will get to watch whales, dolphins and other sea life. It turns out nothing like what was sold to us at such a hefty price. The boat was old, and not at all suitable to go into high waters to see those marine creatures. Moreover, most of the time was spent around marinas where the only thing we could see were seagulls and sea lions, which are the very common site at La Jolle. Instead of four hours, it could have been a 2-hour sail, and we would have covered the exact same sceneries. Breakfast provided was sub-standard, nothing which I expect after spending 175 dollars for the trip. I specifically asked for scrambled eggs, but I got eggs with bell peppers, which my wife couldn't eat. Luckily she had packed some food. Only saving grace in entire boat trip was Charlie and his passionate and informative talks about boating and San Diego. I wish to pursue this matter with San Diego Sailing tours management, on false commitments and marketing. They cannot compensate for precious 6 hours of my holiday, least they can do is to refund my money.
