Fun and danger! - Bang for the buck, the best activity in Arenal according to my family, and we did a few. Tour guides were nice and laid-back, the restaurant where we met and had a meal afterwards was nice and authentic, and the river was a lot of fun. The drive is also not too bad. The only caveat I have, is that it is kind of intense. From what I was told, part of the river serves as a quarry and has been excavated and deepened recently, turning some of the currents in legit level IV rapids. Probably ok for most kids, but my youngest (10) is a scaredy cat to begin with, and it was a bit too much for her. My wife and I, as well as above mentioned scaredy cat, also were tossed out of the boat. Not anyone's fault really. The boat in front of us went too slow, so we could not speed up which made it harder for the guide to navigate and we hit a rock and went flying. My kid floated nicely across the river as she is pretty light, my wife got picked up straight away, but I hit pretty much every boulder in that stretch of river on my way down. Eventually a guide in a kayak told me to swim sideways out of the current, which I did. I suffered some scrapes and bruises and was limping for the next few days, but was fine overall. So this is a real adventure, not a Disney ride, things can go wrong and you could get hurt. Part of the fun, I guess, but something to consider.

Unforgettable Experience - What an unforgettable experience! Our group of 4 did the rapelling/canyoning/rafting package. We arrived at the shuttle pickup spot and were met right away with friendly helpful staff. Once we got to the main location the staff set everyone up with what they needed as well as lockers to store your backpack or belongings(you don't need much on the excursion). Once the excursion began it was one awesome experience after another. The guides were fantastic and very helpful. They truly love what they do. This is a must do when in the La Fortuna area. A bonus: they take several quality photos along the way and let you download them for free!

Perfect experience! - Great trip down the river with even a class IV rapid! The guides were all super friendly and our raft guide Antonio “bola ocho” was so experienced that even my nervous son felt safe and fell in love with white water rafting! My husband left his phone on the van and Pablo went back up to get it with a smile on his face. Great people and perfect experience!

A brilliant adventure - This was the highlight of our stay around La Fortuna. The adventure was absolutely brilliant. Our guide Francisco steered us well and made sure we had both the excitement and the assurance of safety. There were six of us in the boat - a very good boat - and we certainly had more fun than other boats from other companies floating around. Franc was very skilful talented leader. We were flying through the rapids, turning around, rotating and slowing down to see the birds - kingfisher, wren, guan and three or four other types of birds I don’t remember the name. We’ve seen a sloth as well. The rafting itself took two hours. The first part of the rafting was in more turbulent waters and it was exciting. I quickly realised it’s easy if you float with the boat and don’t try to control the outcome 😃. The guide’s instructions came steadily and clearly. In minutes, three couples who never met each other, were paddling like a team. There was a stop for fruit in the middle and we had an opportunity to swim. The second part of the river was calmer, more time to look around. After we came ashore, we were offered drinks of lemonade and beer, and when we reached the base, we had a good lunch. It was a cool experience! We met other people who were fun to talk to / always a bonus when traveling. I recommend this experience as the excellent day trip and can’t compliment our guides and drivers enough.

Best activity in all of CR! - White water rafting was - by far - my kids' favorite activity we did over the 2 weeks we were in CR. In fact, they wanted to go again right after. My kids are 12, 14, 18 and they were able to do level II + III with no problems. Our guide was Super Mario and he was awesome! If we come back to Fortuna, we will definitely use Maquique again. Oh, and the lunch afterward was delicious!!

Super Fun and Adventurous - This was so much fun. Mario was our guide and made us feel safe while having so much fun! It was so nice to stop about 2/3 of the way through for fresh pineapple and watermelon cut right on the beach! In addition to the fun and crazy rapids, we also got to see a sloth, iguanas, and a variety of birds. The rapids were so much fun - big enough to soak you and make you scream, but not so scary that you are afraid you will fall out of the boat! At the end they take you to a restaurant for a traditional (and delicious) Costa Rican meal. And the pictures they take are all included in the trip. We had a blast.

Very professional and funny rafting experience! - I was really impressed with this trip! I was a bit confused to meet at a cooking school, but a restaurant setting was as good a place as any to start. We bussed to the river, got in, and we were off! Our guide Tom was excellent. He was personable and funny. The rapids were fantastic! It was my family’s first crafting experience, and Class 3 was a good place to start. We stopped for fruit along the way, had refreshments when we were done, and headed back to the cooking school for a fantastic lunch! Even better, a photographer followed us, and all photos were INCLUDED in the tour price! This was a really good trip - I’d return to this outfitter.
