- Maleku Chocolate - The tour kicks off in La Fortuna at 8:00 am. After a scenic 1-hour drive through the northern plains, participants will arrive at the Palenque Tonjibe Indian community and receive a warm welcome from the locals. Following a brief introduction, the tour will proceed with a hike through the village to explore significant aspects of this unique place, including their burial customs, traditional home structures, and the artwork and craftsmanship that currently serve as a source of income. Additionally, the tour will cover the use of cocoa in farming and the creation of traditional clothing.
The journey continues with a walk along a 600-meter (0.37 miles) forest trail to learn about medicinal plants used by ancestors and their benefits today. Participants will also have the opportunity to observe ancient huacas or indigenous tombs.
The tour concludes with a visit to a Palenque, where guests will enjoy a traditional Maleku meal.
