Embrace Tranquility: A Father’s Day Retreat in San Carlos

Nestled in the lush landscapes of Costa Rica, San Carlos in the Alajuela Province offers a serene escape perfect for a Father’s Day weekend filled with indoor adventures and relaxation. As the clouds gather and the rain gently taps on the windows, the ambiance is set for a cozy retreat. This weekend, indulge in the luxurious offerings of San Carlos, where the weather invites you to explore the indoors and savor the art of relaxation.

Begin your day with a rejuvenating experience at the Casa Luna Spa. Available in the morning and evening, this therapeutic massage promises to melt away stress with its soft pressure and slow rhythm. The gentle strokes, combined with aromatherapy and complimentary hot stones, create a sanctuary of calm. As one reviewer noted on April 20, 2025:

Loved every second! Left feeling reborn - First time ever getting a full body therapeutic massage. This is the perfect activity to schedule after a few days of hiking and climbing. My girlfriend and I enjoyed the experience. The staff was very friendly and overall experience was needed after traveling and hiking. I would recommend this to everyone. The staff works very hard and was able to identify aches and pains easily and provide relief. The prices were amazing too very low price compared to what is offered in the states, and you can upgrade to a 2.5 session for a reasonable price. We left feeling ache free and ready to take on more of what Costa Rica has to offer!

With the rain providing a soothing backdrop, this massage is the perfect way to start or end your day, leaving you refreshed and ready to explore more of San Carlos.

Culinary Delights: A Taste of Costa Rica

As the rain continues to fall, immerse yourself in the culinary wonders of Costa Rica with a Pura Vida Cooking Class. Available in the morning and afternoon, this class offers a hands-on experience in preparing traditional Costa Rican cuisine. From crafting handmade corn tortillas to creating a delicious “Gallo Pinto,” this class is a delightful journey into the heart of Costa Rican culture.

The experience begins with a tour of “La Finquita,” where you’ll gather fresh ingredients straight from the farm. Under the guidance of expert chefs, you’ll learn to prepare a variety of dishes, each bursting with local flavors. As one participant shared on April 9, 2025:

Excellent! Educational and delicious! - Wow! What a great experience! Our group (of six) all agreed that of the activities we’ve done on this trip to Costa Rica, this is one of the best! Our host, Diego, started us off with a tour of their organic farm, explaining which crops are grown and how they manage them including pineapple, banana, plantains, peppers, peppercorn, a variety of herbs and spices, collecting the ones we needed for our meal. We harvested yuca root, a new experience for us. We then prepared (under guidance of the chef, Marcella) pico de gallo, plantain chips (patacones) made our own flour tortillas, and a delicious local chicken dish. The resulting food was delicious and plentiful. The beautiful outdoor venue and wood burning stove completed a unique experience. The souvenir aprons will bring back many happy memories, and we’ve already started incorporating techniques and spices from our class.

This culinary adventure not only satisfies your taste buds but also enriches your understanding of Costa Rican traditions, making it a must-do activity during your stay.
