Relish the panoramic views of mountain passes, dramatic landscapes, and traditional villages.
- The Palace Complex of Ak-Saray - Travel to Shahrisabz to visit the Ak Saray Palace (White Palace), open from 9am to 6pm. “Ak Saray” translates to “white palace,” with “ak” also meaning “generous,” “aristocratic,” or “majestic.” Temur’s chronicler, Sherif Eddin Ali Yezdi, noted that the world had never seen such a building, reaching from earth to the heavens. The Spanish ambassador Clavigo reported that decoration work was still ongoing in 1404. The building’s scale is evident in the gate towers: two towers stood 50 meters high with an arch spanning 22 meters. The structures were demolished in the 16th century by order of Bukhara’s ruler, Abdullah Khan.
- Statue of Amir Timur - This location is popular with locals and wedding parties. Situated in the center of a newly developed park filled with greenery and flowers, visitors can enjoy delicious ice cream at one of the “chayhanas” (traditional tea houses) featuring carved wooden columns.
- Dorut Tilovat - The architectural ensemble of the Dorut-Tilavat madrasah primarily dates back to Ulugbek’s reign. Initially, a domed mausoleum was constructed over Sheikh Kul’s tomb, on the remnants of earlier structures. Stroll around and capture stunning photos of the massive blue dome over the Friday mosque and the intricate arches.
- Kok-Gumbaz Mosque - In 1435, the Kok-Gumbaz mosque (the “Blue Dome”) was erected opposite Kulyal’s mausoleum on the same axis. The portal’s inscription mentions its construction by Ulugbek on behalf of his father, Shah Rukh. It served as the Juma Mosque, or the Friday Cathedral Mosque, of Shahrisabz.
