A Neat Tour of Stiegl with No Shortage of Samples - My wife and I did the English language guided tour of Stiegl-Brauwelt, which literally translates to "Stiegl Brewing World." Stiegl is located a few kilometers southwest of the Altstadt (Old City) section of Salzburg and given the rainy weather, we opted to take a bus there. The brewery itself is a large complex situated in an area of Salzburg that is more suburban - there is plenty of parking available for visitors - than what we had previously experienced in the city. The English language guided tour is held once per day starting at 1 pm and lasts about two hours. We got to Stiegl about 40 minutes before the tour started, so we had time to thoroughly explore the gift shop which is full of Stiegl products. The tour begins at the gift shop and takes you through several areas of the brewery where you get to witness the production process in action. One of the first stops on the tour is an area where they have items relating to the history of Stiegl on display, including examples of bottles from decades and even centuries past (we saw one bottle dating from around 1887). It was at this stop that we each received our first sample of Stiegl beer. They are certainly not stingy with the sample pours! In total, everybody got three samples throughout the duration of the tour as well as being able to select a bottle at the tour's end to take home. Other highlights of the tour included a peek inside the barrel cellar (where special beers are kept in barrels that previously held spirits such as whiskey, cognac, or sherry, in order to imbue the beer with those flavors) and high-up views of the bottling and packaging lines (interestingly enough, Stiegl-Brauwelt only produces bottles of beer - all of their cans are manufactured at a separate location). Throughout the tour, our guide did a great job of explaining the brewing process and how certain methods of brewing were reflected in the beers that we were tasting. After the tour concluded and we claimed our take-home beers (and purchased some Stiegl drinking glasses), we headed over to the Brewpub for a snack. Overall, this was a very enjoyable experience and I would recommend it to any fans of Stiegl's delicious beers.

Beautiful discovery - Visit of the place without particular expectation, but very pleasantly surprised. We made the tour without guide and it was already very good. Huge museum in the heart of the Stiegl beer factory. Very complete audio guide available for free to download on his phone. Lots of things Interactive for young and old. Plus a tasting included in the entrance ticket.

Incredible guide who personalized it for us - This is a must do if you are in Salzburg. We had the tour guide Markus and he was incredible, knowledgeable, and friendly. It was supposed to be a German tour but since it was only English as a first language speakers, Markus switched to English for us! I can’t imagine a better, more personalized experience.

Salzburg trip - Very friendly staff and a wide range of beers. Great atmosphere in the brewery cellar. The food was very tasty and not typical for a brewery. Finely seasoned and not more quantity than quality. We really enjoyed it.

Okay, Not Great - Unless you are a hardcore brewery fan, I don't think this is worth the taxi/rideshare cost to get there and back. It's not convenient to anything else in Salzburg, and you don't get to see the inner workings of the brewery. It's basically a museum, gift shop and restaurant. We did the self-guided tour - maybe the guided tour is better.

No need - Since we had enough time during our stay in Salzburg, we also visited the Stiegl Brauwelt Museum one afternoon. This is a bit outside of town, but we were there in our own car and parked in the free parking lot. The entrance fee is normally 12.9 euros, but we had the SalzburgCard, which gives us free entry. We thought the exhibition was OK, but on previous visits to brewery museums (Dublin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen) the museums there were much more interesting. So our conclusion would be that a visit is not a must and the regular price is too high in our opinion.
