- Mirabell Palace and Gardens - This stop includes a visit to the stunning Mirabell Gardens, famous for the “Do, Re, Mi” finale. Visitors will also see the Pegasus Fountain, Dwarf Garden, Hedge Tunnel, and the steps where Maria and the children concluded “Do, Re, Mi.”
- Salzburg Marionette Theater - Fans of “The Sound of Music” will recognize this remarkable puppet theater, operational since 1913. It is the oldest continuously running theater of its kind globally. The “Lonely Goatherd” and puppet scenes in “The Sound of Music” were inspired by this theater.
Sound of Music Film Connection:
This theater inspired one of the most iconic scenes, “The Lonely Goatherd.”
- Pferdeschwemme (Horse Well) - This historic monument fountain, constructed in the 17th century, was originally used for washing horses and was featured in “The Sound of Music.”
- Felsenreitschule - Originally built in the 17th century as a riding school for Salzburg’s prince archbishops, it was converted into a theater in 1925. The Von Trapps performed “Edelweiss” here and won the Salzburg festival during the escape scene in “The Sound of Music.”
- Mozart Bridge - Constructed in 1903, the Mozart Bridge is the oldest bridge over the Salzach River in Salzburg. In “The Sound of Music,” Maria and the children cross this bridge during the instrumental end of “My Favorite Things” before skipping along the grassy riverbank.
- Stift Nonnberg - The oldest abbey north of the Alps (714 AD) was featured multiple times in “The Sound of Music.” Only the exterior was used in the film, with interior shots done in a studio.
- Salzburger Altstadt - Departing Salzburg city and heading south to the German border, the private guide will share the history of Salzburg, its years as an independent principality under the Catholic Church, and the significance of salt in the city’s growth. Additional points of interest will be highlighted en route to the next destination.

- Marktschellenberg - Enjoy breathtaking views (weather permitting) at the location where Maria spun in the field during the opening scene of “The Sound of Music,” singing “The Hills Are Alive With The Sound Of Music.”
- Eagle’s Nest Bus Departure Point - On the way to the Obersalzberg bus terminal, there will be several excellent photo stops. The private guide will show where everything was located between 1933 and 1945, including the Berghof grounds, bunker entrances, SS barracks, and more. A scale model at the bus terminal will provide a spatial orientation of the mountain.
- The Eagle’s Nest - Visit the Eagle’s Nest with a private guide. From the bus terminal, board a specially equipped mountain bus for a breathtaking ride up the 4-mile road with a 27% incline to a rocky plateau. From there, walk through a 406ft (124 meters) long tunnel leading directly to the original WWII brass elevator, which transports visitors up through the heart of the Kehlstein mountain for another 406ft, straight into the Eagle’s Nest.
