Half-day Salalah city tour
Museum of the Frankincense Land - At 0830 Hrs, the tour begins with a visit to the “Museum of the Frankincense Land.” Opened in July 2007 at Al Balid Archaeological Park, a UNESCO heritage site in Salalah, this museum is a significant addition to Oman’s cultural heritage. It features two main halls: the History Hall, which showcases the geography and history of the ancient Frankincense trail and the Sultanate’s historical background through various archaeological findings, and The Marine Hall, which displays the development of Oman’s rich marine history. Visitors can explore the complete history of Oman’s maritime trade and shipbuilding industry, with intricately carved replicas of ancient Omani boats and ships. The tour continues through lush green plantations of vegetables and fruits, with a brief stop to sample locally grown produce at a fruit and vegetable stall. The impressive Sultan Qaboos Mosque in central Salalah, built in 2009, welcomes thousands of worshippers and is open to non-Muslim visitors from Saturdays to Thursdays, 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Guests will also view the Official Palace of His Majesty the Sultan (Al Husn Palace) and stroll through the old Haffah souk, renowned for high-quality Frankincense and various Dhofari traditional souvenirs. The tour concludes with a return to the hotel in the afternoon. An overnight stay is arranged at a hotel in Salalah [B].
Half-day west Salalah tour
Mughsail Beach - The half-day exploration of Dhofar begins with a drive towards the ‘Qara’ mountains, along a road that winds up a steep incline. Herds of camels and cattle are a common sight, offering a scenic view of traditional Dhofari rural beauty. The tour includes a visit to the ancient tomb of ‘Prophet Job,’ located in the scenic green mountains of the Salalah Plains, where guests can learn about the legendary story of Prophet Job and his devotion. The journey continues to Mughsail Beach, where white sand meets the deep blue ocean at high tide, and waves burst through natural ‘Blow Holes’ at the far end of the ‘Rocky beach’ with a cave-like entrance. The tour proceeds along the ‘Hair-pin-bend’ road towards the Western Border of Oman, with breathtaking cliffs on either side, to see the historical ‘Frankincense trees’ growing in their natural habitat, deep in the valleys, dotting the dry and rugged countryside. A short walk into the valleys allows guests to experience the scent of ‘Holy Incense’ amidst the scenic views. On the return journey, a photo stop is made at the lagoon at Mughsail, where migratory birds, including flamingos, are often seen. The tour concludes with a return to the hotel. An overnight stay is arranged at a hotel in Salalah [B].
Half-day east Salalah tour
Bin Ali Tomb - The excursion starts with a visit to the old fishing village of ‘Taqah,’ known for ‘Dried Sardines’ and its traditional and old ‘Dhofari Houses.’ Guests will visit the century-old ‘Taqah Castle,’ the former official residence of the ‘Wali’ (Governor) of the region, to gain insight into the region’s rich history. The tour continues to the ancient ruins of the once-famous city of Sumharam (KhorRohri), the easternmost outpost of the Hadramawt Kingdom on the ancient incense route between the Mediterranean Sea, Persian Gulf, and India. KhorRori was a significant port on the Dhofar coast and a major trading city for frankincense, believed to have been the hub and harbor for shipping Frankincense (UNESCO World Heritage site). A picturesque drive leads to ‘Mirbat,’ the ancient capital of Dhofar and the beginning of the ‘Frankincense trail.’ Guests can stroll through streets lined with old Omani mud houses and visit the ‘twin-domed Bin Ali’s Tomb’ for a photo stop, a classic example of medieval architecture. On the way back to the hotel, guests can explore the beauty of Wadi Darbat. The tour concludes with a return to the hotel by late afternoon. An overnight stay is arranged at a hotel in Salalah [B].
