Setting Sail on the Mystic

As the sun peeked over the horizon, I found myself boarding the catamaran ‘Mystic’ at Dickenson’s Bay, a convenient spot for those of us staying at Sandals. The anticipation of a day filled with sun, sea, and adventure was palpable. With a group of about 30 fellow explorers, the boat felt spacious and inviting, a perfect vessel for our journey along Antigua’s stunning southern coast.

The crew, a lively bunch with infectious smiles, welcomed us aboard with a variety of soft drinks. Sensibly, they held off on serving alcohol until after our snorkeling adventure. Schools of vibrant fish darted around us, and I even spotted a barracuda and a trumpet fish, their sleek forms cutting through the water with ease.

The snorkeling session lasted a good 20 minutes, enough time to truly appreciate the marine life and the gentle rhythm of the sea. Emerging from the water, I felt invigorated, my senses heightened by the experience. Back on the boat, the crew had prepared a sumptuous BBQ lunch. As we dined, the bar opened, and the drinks began to flow, adding to the festive atmosphere.

After lunch, we anchored at a secluded bay, a slice of paradise with turquoise waters and soft sands. Here, we had the chance to swim, sunbathe, or simply stroll along the beach. Vendors offered local crafts, adding a touch of culture to our beachside retreat. It was a moment to savor, the kind of experience that makes island life so enchanting.

As the afternoon sun began its descent, we hoisted the sails and set course for home. The open bar was in full swing, and the music turned up, creating a lively vibe on deck. Laughter and conversation mingled with the sound of the waves, a perfect soundtrack for our return journey. As we cruised back to Dickenson’s Bay, I couldn’t help but feel a deep sense of contentment.
