Embrace the Pre-Carnival Vibes in Saint George’s

As the vibrant island of Grenada gears up for its annual Carnival, the capital city of Saint George’s is already buzzing with excitement. The pre-Carnival atmosphere is the perfect time to explore the rich culture and natural beauty of this Caribbean gem. With the weather playing its part, offering a mix of partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures, it’s an ideal setting for outdoor adventures. On February 8th, start your day with a Culture Tour that kicks off at 9:00 AM. This tour is a delightful way to immerse yourself in the local culture, with stops at Fort Frederick, Concord Falls, and the lush Grand Etang National Park. The tour is led by a friendly local guide who ensures a comfortable and informative experience. As one reviewer noted on November 3, 2024:

You won’t be disappointed - We had a great day with Norland. He is born and bred Grenadian. He picked us up at 9am and we didn’t return until 7pm. He will cater your day to what you want to see and do. With an hourly charge you can choose whether to do a couple of hours or a full day. Our wishlist was a waterfall you hike to as well as River Antoine rum distillery. We went from one end of the island to the other. There are 2 waterfalls at Concord falls. One right beside the parking lot and one that is a 20-30 min hike. We went on the hike. As it had been raining it was quite treacherous in places but so worth it in the end. We were the only people there. Norland always made sure we were comfortable and safe. River Antoine distillery and Belmont Estate are well worth a visit. In both locations rum and chocolate are still made in the same fashion as they always have been. We finished our trip with a visit to Welcome Rock. We didn’t know this existed. On a clear day you get a fabulous view of the other islands.

The tour wraps up by 3:00 PM, leaving you plenty of time to explore the local markets or relax on the beach as the sun sets.

Discover Hidden Gems and Natural Wonders

On February 9th, the weather promises clear skies with a chance of rain, making it a perfect day for a Half Day Exploration. Starting at 9:00 AM, this tour takes you through some of Grenada’s most popular sites, including the Grand Etang National Park. Here, you can marvel at the diverse flora and fauna, and if you’re lucky, you might even spot a Mona monkey. The tour also includes a visit to the spice market, where you can learn about the island’s famous spices and perhaps pick up a few to take home. As one reviewer shared on November 17, 2024:

It’s a MUST do, if you want to see Grenada - Excellent Tour! A highlight of our stay in Grenada.

The tour concludes at 1:00 PM, giving you the afternoon to explore at your leisure. Whether you choose to visit more historical sites or simply enjoy the island’s stunning beaches, the day is yours to savor.

Savor the Flavors and Rhythms of Grenada

No visit to Saint George’s would be complete without indulging in the local cuisine and music. As the sun sets, the city comes alive with the sounds of steel drums and calypso music, setting the stage for an unforgettable evening. Head to one of the local restaurants to sample Grenadian dishes like oil down, a hearty stew made with breadfruit, salted meat, and coconut milk. Pair your meal with a refreshing rum punch, and let the island’s rhythms carry you into the night.

As you explore Saint George’s during this pre-Carnival period, you’ll find that the city’s vibrant culture and natural beauty are perfectly complemented by the warm hospitality of its people. Whether you’re hiking through lush rainforests, swimming in crystal-clear waterfalls, or simply soaking up the sun on a pristine beach, Grenada offers a unique blend of adventure and relaxation that will leave you longing for more.
