St. Catherine’s Monastery - Situated on the Sinai Peninsula at the entrance of a gorge at the base of Mount Sinai, near the town of Saint Catherine, Egypt, Saint Catherine’s Monastery is governed by the autonomous Church of Sinai, which is part of the Eastern Orthodox Church. It is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Constructed between 548 and 565, the monastery is among the oldest continuously functioning Christian monasteries globally. It houses the world’s oldest continuously operating library, which includes many rare books such as the Syriac Sinaiticus and, until 1859, the Codex Sinaiticus.

Embark on a journey from Cairo to the city of St. Katherine, nestled in the Sinai Peninsula of Egypt. Located 1600 meters above sea level at the base of the Sinai High Mountains, it attracts hundreds of visitors who come to explore the world’s continuously inhabited oldest monastery, St. Katherine’s Monastery, build on the same ground where Moses (Prophet Musa) supposedly communicated with God through the Burning Bush miracle and climbed Mt. Sinai (referred to in the bible as Mt. Horeb, and locally known as Jebel Musa) to receive the Ten Commandments.
We will pick you up from your hotel for the scenic trip to South Sinai/Saint Catherine, a journey of approximately 7 hours.
Accommodation is then provided in Saint Catherine’s tourist village, where dinner is included.
For eager explorers, a 2:00 am wake-up call is given for our pre-dawn visit to Mount Sinai, which demands a 90-minute or 2-hour hike to witness the breathtaking sunrise.
Following the descent, you are invited to visit Saint Catherine’s Monastery in the early hours of the day.
