Lunch took a very long time to get underway; appeared to be a scheduling issue with two events going on at the same time on the ferry. Weather made for a wet cruise back to the docks and caused a two-hour delay in the train ride back to Middlebury, but this cannot be blamed on the event. Otherwise, it was a fantastic time!
Good blend of land and water transit, and well coordinated. Lot of slow orders on return south, made us late for a Sabra Field exhibit at Middlebury College. Bob
In the confirmation email, the address of the departing station was listed as Seymore and also spelled Seymour. When the first spelling was entered into a GPS, it took us to the wrong area of Vermont. We spent several hours on the road before we discovered the mistake.. Just by luck,I decided to take a dry run on Friday; so we were OK for the trip on Saturday. All personnel we came into contact with both on the train and on the boat were great. The parking instructions need to be emailed in a more timely manner. My cell plan didn't work ell in the mountains and I had a hard time opening it. Just by luck the people in the computer store (the old train station) explained about the parking.
We enjoyed our day very much. Seemed to be well organized.
Was recommended by a friend. Very easy to make reservations. Very enjoyable day for the money. Food and service on the ship was excellent. Would recommend it to others and definitely take the trip again.
I want to Thank Vermont Rail System/Green Mountain Railroad for the trip to Burlington, and the excellent cruise on Lake Champlain aboard the Spirit of Ethan Allen III for lunch. My wife and I had one of the best day trips I could remember. Was worth every penny, and if offered again next year, I would return. Thanks again VRS!!
Great service, friendly staff, all went according to plan! Comfortable seating, easily accesdible bathrooms!
As far as the "Rail" portion myself and the others in my party had a very nice experience and we would recommend it to family and friends. I was very disappointed with the "Sail" part of the trip. And that stems from the food /buffet part. I have an allergy to pork and because of not knowing the menu ahead of time and the fact that the meat was at the end of the line and I didn't realize what would be there till I got to the end, I had only taken small portions of the other offerings; thus, I was very hungry by the end of the cruise. Ended up buying some foood to take back on the train to eat. Lesson learned. Everyone I have mentioned this to, thought it very odd that pork was the main choice; usually a chicken or turkey is a more viable option for most people instead of pork or beef. In the future if I have any outings on the Ethan Allen that include food, I will ask ahead of time for the menu. Thank you for allowing me to offer my review.
The whole experience, with the train, and lunch aboard the Ethan Allen made for a very nice day. The guide for the trip,Nicole, was very pleasant and very helpful.
I thought the train was set up nicely, plenty of room, very comfortable. Everything was on time, accommodations on the Ethan Allen were also very nice.
Only one bathroom. Very good itinerary. Helpful staff. Be nice to have a beer on the train. We had a good time. Would like to see brush cut along route to enjoy the Vermont countryside.
While the trees falling on the line were not the fault of the railroad, the announcement that we were leaving in fifteen minutes was misleading by forty five minutes. The Ethan Allen trip was excellent. The train ride was good.
BECAUSE IT WAS RELAXING - SAW THE COUNTRYSIDE FROM A VIEW CANNOT GET IN A CAR. DID NOT HAVE TO DRIVE . FELT GOOD TO HAVE ENOUGH ROOM - OPEN WINDOWS - DID NOT FEEL CROWDED OR FELT WE NEEDED TO CONVERSE WITH NEIGHBORING PASSENDGERS. WHEN WE HAD TO WAIT BECAUSE OF TREE - SORRY WE DID NOT THINK OR THE STAFF DID NOT THINK TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF GAMES YOU OFFERED AT BEGINNING OF RIDE. STAFF VERY PLEASANT ALWAYS. WILL RECOMMEND TO OTHERS. BOAT TRIP DISAPPOINTING.
No bathroom facilities at the pick up area was a negative factor.
everyone was great on the train as well the boat if in the area in the future would do it again, thank you
Had a great time. Staff on both the train and Spirit of Ethan Allen was warm, friendly, accommodating and very informative. Buffet was more than I expected. The ship and train was exceptionally clean and neat. I will definitely go again. I wold like to see other train rides come back like the one from Bennington to Manchester and Bellows falls to Chester and Ludlow run again some day. William Lapsley.
Wonderful combination of rail and boat travel. Train staff was very friendly, helpful and informative. Our 3 year old granddaughter liked every bit of it.
The conductors were warm and friendly. Train ride was interesting, old rail in the begining gave you the real clicky clack expirence, welded rail later in the trip gave an insight to what will come in the future. Meal on board th Ethan Allen was more than I expected, more like a dinner. Only suggestion would be for additional parking at Station. Thanks for a grat day!
The ticket process was easy. The train had plenty of space. We were told that we would walk over to the boat. The meal was lovely and we were not crowded with the spacing of chairs and tables. It was a fun day and something that I hope to do again.
Great train and boat ride. Well organized and managed. Food on boat was awesome. Staff of GMR very friendly and knowledgeable. Good value for money.
Lovely train ride, hope they decide to provide more and clear the way for better views of the landscape. The boat ride around lake Champlain was fantastic, very knowledgeable on there history of the lake. Exceptional food! Highly recommend
This was an absolutely wonderful day trip. I loved how the staff of the train were open to walking up and down the train cars and interacting with us passengers- even complimenting my group on our fans! The whole experience was perfect- and you can bet that I'll be traveling with GMR again soon!
Very well organized, well handled (despite the rain and downed tree on the track!!). We hope that this becomes a regular event, and look forward to the additional travel options between Middlebury and Burlington for train travel! It was a very nice day. The Spirit of Ethan Allen cruise was also EXCELLENT!!!
Would definitely come again! Lots of fun, scenic train and boat ride was a great way to see Vermont!
