Dendera Temple
The Temple of Hathor was primarily built during the Late Ptolemaic period, under the reigns of Ptolemy XII and Cleopatra VII, with further additions during the Roman era. Although constructed by a dynasty of non-native Egyptian rulers, the temple’s design aligns with traditional Egyptian temples, except for the front of the hypostyle hall, which, as per an inscription above the entrance, was built by Emperor Tiberius.
Hathor was also revered as a goddess of healing, evident from the sanatorium within the temple complex, where pilgrims sought cures from the goddess.

Abydos - Travel from the Dendera Temple to the Abydos Temple. Abydos is one of Ancient Egypt’s most significant archaeological sites, home to many ancient temples, including Umm el-Qa’ab, a royal necropolis for early pharaohs. These tombs gained immense significance, and over time, the desire to be buried there increased, enhancing the town’s status as a cult site.
Today, Abydos is renowned for the memorial temple of Seti I, which features the Abydos King List, an inscription from the nineteenth dynasty listing the cartouches of most Egyptian dynastic pharaohs from Menes to Ramesses I. The Great Temple and much of the ancient town lie beneath modern buildings north of the Seti temple. Many original structures and artifacts are considered lost or destroyed due to new construction.
