Rovaniemi - Transit to First Viewing Zone
Utilizing real-time weather models and local expertise, we drive to the first point of interest. During the journey, the guide shares insights about the Aurora Borealis: the formation of the lights, the impact of solar activity on visibility, and tips for spotting faint glimmers on the horizon. As restrooms are limited on these remote roads, this is typically the best opportunity for a quick stop at a roadside facility before nightfall. -
Rovaniemi - Aurora Attempt & Photo Setup
Upon arriving at a location with clear skies, we stop at a safe shoulder or designated pull-out. The guide sets up a professional camera and tripod for anyone wanting photos. A smaller tripod is available for personal phone or DSLR shots. While you step onto the snow (wearing the provided winter gear) to observe the northern sky, the guide adjusts camera settings for optimal long-exposure shots. Warm drinks and snacks remain in the minibus for when needed; you can return briefly to warm up or grab another gingerbread cookie. If the aurora appears, we dedicate time to capturing and admiring it. If not, we return to the minibus and pursue clearer skies elsewhere. -
Rovaniemi - On-the-Move Aurora Chasing
This part is dynamic. As cloud cover and aurora forecasts change, we continue driving to new vantage points. If weather models suggest a higher chance of activity further away, we relocate—even if it means crossing into another country. During transitions, you can relax in the van, enjoy hot drinks, savor more gingerbread cookies or Fazer chocolates, and discuss advanced photography techniques with your guide (e.g., ISO settings, lens choices, framing). -
Rovaniemi - Aurora Viewing & Return to Rovaniemi
Once the northern lights have been successfully photographed, we linger for a few more shots—often moving to a slightly darker spot if possible. After you are satisfied, we pack up the camera and tripod. The guide confirms a safe return route based on the best roads and lighting conditions. As we head back to Rovaniemi, feel free to nap, review your photos on your camera/phone, or simply enjoy the final moments of Finnish wilderness under the stars. We aim to return to Rovaniemi by early morning, depending on the distance traveled.
