Brilliant day. Sooo glad we did this. - We booked two trips with Wild About Lapland and both were fantastic experiences with great guides. Communication from the company at the time of booking and prior to the trips was good. On both occasions we had a friendly and welcoming greeting from staff at the Wild About Lapland office when we arrived for our trip. The office is cosy and nicely decorated and has a good amount of seating and tea making facilities for guests. Shortly after arriving for our Korouona trip we met our guide Mathilde (apologies if spelt incorrectly) who was friendly, helpful and professional. A good range of outdoor clothing is available to borrow if needed. We already had pretty good cold winter wear but some of our family did swap our snow boots for the Wild About Lapland boots which were warmer and better for hiking than our own. Mathilde drove us and another family to Korouoma in a mini van which was warm and comfortable. A toilet stop was offered at a petrol station /cafe / shop en route. Mathilde warned us that the toilets at Korouoma were basic drop toilets, which didn't faze us, but retrospectively once we had seen the condition others had left the toilets at Korouoma in on the day we visited ( apparently they are not usually this bad) we wished we had taken up this offer, and were very glad to know that we could visit this setting on our way home once we had finished the hike! The day we visited Korouoma was a popular day for trips, but the car park wasn't especially busy when we arrived and although we encountered some other small groups on our walk this did not detract from our experience or enjoyment. The car park was much busier when we returned, so I assume that paths may have been quite a bit busier in the afternoon. We were provided with crampons for our walk, which were effective and definitely helpful for some of the slopes. We (two adults, and two children aged 12 and 14) really enjoyed the walk. Although it was very cold when we set off ( below -20 degrees Celsius) it did warm up during the day (up to -15 I think!) and we were blessed with blue skies. Being in the snowy forest amongst the snow-clad trees draped with lichen was magical, and it wasn't long before we got out first views across the other side of the canyon to the first frozen waterfalls, which were awesome! We then walked down into the canyon and our route took us past the different waterfalls. They were all beautiful and amazing to see. We were lucky to see some ice-climbers on two of the waterfalls, which was interesting to watch. After seeing the last waterfall we headed to an area in the forest with a number of bbq / fire areas. We were all feeling rather chilly (faces, fingers and toes) so enjoyed the opportunity to warm up by the fire. Mathilde cooked us some sausages (vegetarian option available) and these, along with some hot chocolate ( tea also available), helped restore us for the last part of the walk, approximately 25 minutes up the hill to the car park. Mathilde our guide was brilliant at checking all of our group were okay, and meeting the needs of the group. She shared interesting information with us about the area and the waterfalls during our walk, but also had a lot of wider knowledge about Lapland, ice-climbing, outdoor adventures etc and I was really grateful to her for putting up with my flurries of questions. It was great to have this opportunity to see Korouoma Canyon and the spectacular frozen waterfalls during our time in Lapland, and I am delighted with the experience we had with Wild About Lapland and our fab guide Mathilde. NB. This is the first time I have used hand warmers inside my gloves and these were very useful to take and have available to use during this trip, especially for our children.

Fun-filled day in snowy Lapland - Had the best time hiking in the awe-inspiring snowy forest of Korouoma with 3 impressive frozen waterfalls. Ania was the best guide, very friendly and ready to accommodate our needs. We enjoyed delicious sausages, marshmallows and chocolate.

Great Hiking in Frozen Waterfalls - Guide: Jordi was amazing! A well traveled person, smart, and an experienced guide! He was enthusiastic and engaging throughout the entire trip. He shared a lot on the ecology, history and culture. He was also extremely attentive to everyone making sure to engage them and make sure they are enjoying themselves and offering to take pictures for them as well. The hike was amazing, just being surrounded by nature with breathtaking views. There are quite a bit of steep climbs (even though we don’t used any ice spikes) especially returning up its a bit challenging (thanks to Jordi for the shortcuts) but nothing too difficult. Nearer to the end, we had a simple BBQ as planned with hot dogs and some hot beverages.

Recommended activity ! Beautiful. - You will take a ~5-5.5km hike through the snowy forests of Finland. It’s beautiful to see! You should be moderately fit because at the end you will take approx. 1km hike back up the mountain which can be quite difficult/exhausting/demanding but you can do some breaks on the way up. Be aware of that. You can also just go there by yourself but then you will have 1 hour drive in way and have to navigate the forest for yourself which can quite unlucky if you take the wrong path and end up with some kilometres more on the clock.

Excellent hike - One of the highlights of our visit to Rovaniemi. We went with a guide who is also a professional photographer, so we got nice family shots with the waterfalls. If all members of your group are fit enough, the longer trail is recommended, but you would need spikes and walk carefully on the slippery portions. Highly recommended.

Stunning Frozen Waterfalls & Peaceful Hike - Hiking through Karouma Canyon was an absolutely magical experience. The entire landscape was covered in snow, and the frozen waterfalls were truly breathtaking. Our guide was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable, which really enhanced the experience and made the hike even more enjoyable. Choosing the early time slot meant we had the park almost entirely to ourselves, allowing us to fully appreciate the silence, solitude, and natural beauty of the canyon. It was a fantastic experience and one we would highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.

Thank you Gabor - Even at minus 25 celcius, our guide Gabor kept the beautiful walk safe and full of facts. On the way back to the meeting point he even made a detour so we could see some Northern Lights! Great!

Not respecting the natural reserve rules - A company that does not respect the rules of the Korouoma Nature Reserve, despite the many signs clearly forbidding the use of slides. What is the point of hiring a guide if the guide himself does not follow the rules? This sets a very poor example. Your putting at risks your customers and the others using this trail. By engaging in this kind of behavior, you are also damaging the natural environment, comeback in summer to see how you destroyed it... The people shown in these images did not stop only at these slides — they used them throughout the entire route. This is completely unacceptable. The guide is surrounded with red circle, visible WAL jacket
