• Rotterdam Centraal Station - Prior to World War II, there was no central station, but four separate stations around the city center. The central station was inaugurated at its current site in 1957. A comprehensive renovation began in 2004, culminating in the current design completed in 2014. The previous station could not accommodate the growing number of passengers.

• Luchtsingel - In 2011, Rotterdam’s municipality launched the first city initiative, an administrative tool to encourage innovation and citizen engagement. Residents were invited to propose projects to enhance the city’s vibrancy and quality of life. A budget of 4 million was allocated from the city initiative to bring the project to life.

• Nieuwe Delftse Poort - In the Middle Ages, this was one of the ten city gates of Rotterdam. By the 1930s, the city expanded rapidly, and the gate obstructed traffic flow, prompting its relocation by about 100 meters (demolition faced significant opposition). The gate was heavily damaged during World War II bombings and was demolished a year later as it could not be restored. Some decorative elements from the original gate were preserved and integrated into the walls of buildings at the town hall square corner.

• City Hall Rotterdam - Constructed between 1914 and 1920 by Henri Evers, the town hall is one of the few central Rotterdam buildings that survived the May 14, 1940 bombardment.

• Meent - Today, Meent is a vibrant hotspot in Rotterdam, featuring numerous cafés, eateries, and clothing stores. In the 1990s, it was primarily home to temporary employment and travel agencies, lacking atmosphere and with many vacancies. Robin von Weiler, known as Mr. Meent, is renowned for his contributions to revitalizing this street.

• Grote of Sint-Laurenskerk - The Laurenskerk is the sole remnant of Rotterdam’s medieval center. It is a blend of a hall church (all buildings of equal height) and a cruciform basilica (side towers lower than the main tower). The church was constructed between 1449 and 1525.

• Markthal - A modern complex featuring a covered market and several restaurants beneath an arch of apartments.

• Cube Houses - In the 1970s, architects aimed to create welcoming residential areas with input from residents and users, countering the large-scale, gray modernism of post-WWII architecture. Piet Blom, a structuralist and follower of Aldo van Eyck, believed large buildings should be human-scaled by using small, recognizable elements. The concept of constructing buildings on columns, allowing public space beneath, was inspired by Le Corbusier.
