Embark on a journey through the quaint neighborhood of Trastevere and the Jewish ghetto commencing from Piazza Trilussa. Wish to witness Rome like it was centuries ago? Narrow cobblestone roads bordered by aged houses?
Trastevere earns its name from its location ‘across the Tiber’. Isolated from central Rome by the river, this area maintained its slender alleyways and proletariat residents while Rome underwent expansive development in the 19th century.
Despite its popular attraction for tourists, it has successfully sustained its deep-rooted local (and “Roman”!) culture.
We will cross over the river Tiber and the Tiberina Island to arrive at one of the city’s historical treasure troves: the Jewish ghetto.
Housing the oldest Jewish community throughout Europe, this vibrant and rich locality is equally significant to the city’s history as it is to the Jewish religion.
