Hidden must visit gem! - Struggled a bit to find the entrance but this is a hidden gem, walking through a ‘shopping centre’ that’s nearly 2000 years old is mind blowing, much less crowded than the well known sites, this is an absolute must!!

For a little pompeii vibe - I have seen so much about Trajans market on TV and read about it. I have seen it at distance and always wanted to see it up close. When visiting Rome my wife and I walked by the museum entrance I decided to go in and my wife decided to go to Piazza Venezia to wait and watch people. The museum and archaeological area is well worth a visit. The museum itself is interesting and you get a good background for the imperial forums as well as for the "oldest shopping mall" itself. Parts of it almost gives a pompeii vibe where you do get a feel for what it may have looked like in ancient times. There are also bathrooms and vending machines in place.

Amazing and Amazingly quiet - You must see the Trajan Market. On the way from Forum Romanum there are so many other things to see like the Forum Lilium and over the road the Fora di Augusto and the Trajan Forum itself. These are all brilliant but at the back of the Trajan Forum is the Trajan Market. Access is from the Largo Magnanapoli side. It is a truly extraordinary place. Basically it’s a Roman era shopping mall with an inside built around an atrium and outside there are shops on the street. It is so well preserved that it looks like the shops could still be there and it, more than anything I have seen in Rome gives the physical essence of what their streetscapes were like. It is a really interesting experience seeing day to day architecture rather than the monumental architecture of the different Forums. It’s very relatable and is if a couple of lads came around the corner in Togas they wouldn’t look out of place. A little gem!

Market Day Glory - Unlike modern day markets these ruins are the remains of Emperor Trajan's structure built around 100AD. He built a multi level building housing shops & apartments and over the years it had many varied uses from military strongholds to convents. There is a museum open that highlights sections of the remains, check for when it's open!

Trajan’s market was very interesting - Tip - be prepared to stand in the queue to get your voucher. We did not know and ended up walking to Trajan’s market after we got our voucher alone. There is a movie to the left of the queue that you will watch first. No one was there to explain what we were supposed to do. I hope this helps others understand.

My Visit - It is near the Piazza Venezia and you cannot miss it. The ruins are a bit random and not well reserved.

Difficult voucher system - I actually cancelled the reservation because I could not locate the place to turn in the vouchers and obtain the tickets. The system is difficult. In order to take the excursion I would have to go in person to two different locations and the instructions were NOT clear about the locations of each. Why can’t you send the actual tickets instead of a voucher that needs to be redeemed in a spot that can’t be easily located???

Great Tour but No Need to Pay on Sunday - The Roman Forum and Market is incredible! But TripAdvisor sold us these tickets for a Sunday tour. Sundays are free. I do appreciate a rapid refund, but TripAdvisor should know more about what they are promoting to avoid situations like this. The tour would have been worth the price. If you can go on Sunday, it's not terribly crowded and ... free!

Paid for tickets but couldn’t go in - The forum entrance was closed and we couldn’t pick up our tickets because giro d’italia bike race was happening in Rome that day so we travelled there and lost the money for the tickets
