Experience firsthand the multiple layers Rome is founded on! - I did this tour 7 years ago and it was so amazing that I wanted to experience it again with family. I had to change our entire line up of scheduled tours because of Republic Day on June 2. Many government sites are shut down. I had changed the date of this tour on TripAdvisor. But TripAdvisor did not notify me that tours were not being held on the new date. Fortunately I received a confirmation text regarding our original date from Touriks. I explained re the change. Touriks found someone to give us a private tour of St Clement’s. I give Touriks 10 stars and TripAdvisor 1 star.

Excellent private tour - Excellent tour. We booked a private tour because we anticipated having questions. Ernesto was very knowledgeable. We were most interested in the Mithras temple.

An historical treasure trove - Our guide Erneste(sp) was informative and engaging. The building was fascinating and he brought it to life with a deep understanding of his subject matter. I am a tourist with a high level of interest and education in history and he had all the answers to my questions. The five periods of history represented here each tell a different story of the past and the people who lives and worshipped at this site. One of the best tours of my trip to Rome.

Rome Underground temples and basilicas - We had a fascinating tour with Paul of the Underground Temples and Proto-Christian Basilicas that culminated at Basilica of San Clemente which is an absolute history lesson of itself. Before arrive at San Clemente, Paul took us on a walking tour to see evidences of ancient Rome hidden all around the city. Small evidences here and there of ancient remnants used even in this day. Paul (an American) is an archeologist but his strength for this tour is his encyclopedic knowledge of ancient history, both secular and religious. He seems to possess a deep faith in the Catholic tradition which allowed us to see the relics and layers of history through his personal faith lens. Just fascinating!! The layers of San Clemente are so revealing. The current church from the 1200s actually has the choir of the 400s church in use today. Below the current church, is the 400s church below which is the 100s Mithraic temple. All of which you can walk amidst as you descend through the layers. Highly recommend!!

Worthwhile beautiful church with impressive historical element - Our tour was extremely interesting and worthwhile. Our guide was knowledgeable and gave us a lot of good historical facts and context. The church is beautiful and worth seeing by itself, but the levels underneath were incredibly cool.

Time Changed Before Tour - Knowing our schedule that day, we scheduled a 4:00 PM tour. A few days before the tour, I got a message asking if I could switch to 3:00 PM. I responded back that it would be tough, but I would try. Between our schedule and the large volume of traffic, we could not make the revised time slot they switched us to, so we arrived 15 minutes late missing the tour. At least the attendant let us in without additional charge. We tried checking with the various tour groups going through at that time to see if we could meet up but were not successful so we toured the Basilica ourselves as best we could. Later that day I did see that the tour guide did try to reach us to see where we were, but my mobile phone was not operative so I did not see that until later that night.
