Crafted from nineteen marble blocks, it weighs 1,110 tons. Detailed bas-reliefs depict the stories of the Dacian wars. Innovative artistic techniques, such as using a tree to separate scenes, were utilized. The panoramic views from the top are truly breathtaking.
- Piazza Navona - Piazza Navona is one of Rome’s most cherished squares, found in the Parione district. Its design reflects that of ancient Roman stadiums, following the layout of the Stadium of Domitian, locally known as Campomarzio. It could accommodate up to 20,000 spectators and was called “Circo Agonístico” during Emperor Domitian’s reign (81-96 AD). Over time, its name evolved from “in agone” to “nagone” and finally to “navone,” a term that intriguingly also means “large ship” in Italian.
- Pantheon - The Pantheon, located in Rome, Italy, was initially commissioned by Marcus Agrippa during Emperor Augustus’s reign (27 BC–14 AD) and later rebuilt by Hadrian around 126 AD.
Known for its circular design, the Pantheon features a portico adorned with large Corinthian granite columns.
- Trevi Fountain - Positioned at the junction of three streets, the fountain served as the endpoint of the Acqua Vergine, one of Rome’s ancient aqueducts. In 19 BC, reportedly with the help of a virgin, Roman engineers discovered a source of pure water just over 22 kilometers from the city (depicted in a sculpture on the fountain today). This water, from Rome’s smallest aqueduct, was directly supplied to the baths of Marcus Agrippa, serving the city for more than four centuries.
- Piazza di Spagna - At the center of the square is the famous Fontana della Barcaccia, a masterpiece created in the early Baroque period by Pietro Bernini and his renowned son, Gian Lorenzo Bernini.
To the right of the staircase is the former home of English poet John Keats, who lived and died there in 1821. It now functions as a museum dedicated to his and Percy Bysshe Shelley’s memory, featuring a collection of books and artifacts from the English Romanticism era. On the opposite side is the prestigious Babington’s Tea Room, established in 1893.
