Disappointing Tour Guide - My parents and I were very disappointed with our tour guide for this tour. Perhaps we were unlucky with our particular guide, but he displayed zero passion for his work, and was clearly just there to do a job. He drove us from point to point, and narrated some things, but definitely didn't go above and beyond. He seemed to give the minimum amount of information to get by, and even when we asked about things like restaurant recommendations he would throw out the names of a couple of the most tourist-trap restaurants in Rome. Or, my mom would ask about a specific church he perhaps wasn't familiar with, and he would just respond that there were a lot of churches in Rome. Once we got to the various stopping points, he didn't get out of the golf cart to accompany us, offer to take photos of us, or provide any additional information about anything. He sat in the golf cart on his phone, whereas the drivers of other golf cart tours at the same stops appeared to be more interested in catering to their clients. Our guide also did not seem to consider my parents' mobility issues, and at one viewpoint parked in front of the middle of a long chained fence, and weirdly close to a scooter. That required us to squeeze our way past the scooter, and walk all the way around to reach the viewpoint and then all the way back around to get back to his golf cart. For a private tour, it would have been nice if he had considered dropping us off at an easily-accessible entrance, or noticing when we were ready to leave and moving the golf cart to pick us up at an easier spot. It was fine, but it was just these lack of personal touches that were missing from the tour that made us feel like the private tour (with him) was not worth the money we paid. One good aspect was that the tour guide was willing to go to a couple of the places we asked to go that weren't on the official route, and we saw some things my parents enjoyed and otherwise might not have seen. That was exactly why we had booked the private tour - so we could customize it according to our interests. For those with mobility issues, golf cart tours are a good way to cover a lot of ground in a short amount of time. After we had already decided that this tour was mediocre and disappointing, my mom's coat was stolen out of the back of the golf cart when we were at one of the stops. The guide was sitting in the golf cart the whole time, and after we discovered what happened he seemed pretty unconcerned and unapologetic. We know about theft in Rome, keep our belongings secure and on us at all times, and perhaps she shouldn't have left a coat (with nothing in the pockets, thankfully) in the back of an open golf cart. But we were very disappointed that something like that happened while the guide was sitting there. The good news is that after that happened, and perhaps he realized that things weren't going that well, he decided to leave the golf cart for 30 seconds and offer to take our photo at one of the stops. Overall, we saw some interesting things, but based on our experience I would choose a different company. I never leave reviews, but I felt like this one needed to be reviewed.
