Pompei was a large and diverse city with a healthy mix of wealthy elite, merchants, artisans, and slaves whose lives you’ll get a crystal-clear glimpse of on a 2-hour walking tour.
After some rest-and-recharge at an authentic pizzeria, a short transfer will take us to our second destination.

Pompei and Herculean - Ida was the best. She knew soo much and happy to share with all. She was thorough, seemed to love the ruins and possessed deep knowledge. She was also very accommodating.

Highly Recommend - I highly recommend this tour. The train station staff were attentive, insuring everyone made it onto the proper train and bus. Our guide was excellent. The entire experience was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Highly recommend! Worth booking through Viator and with a guide! - From the start, the tour guides did a great job of organizing people for the train ride and then meeting us on the other side. Antonio started sharing his knowledge of area and history the second our group was gathered! So much amazing information but not so much that we were overwhelmed. Having a guide through the site was invaluable. Antonio took extra time with anyone who had questions, needed help etc. We felt very fortunate to see the current excavation project. A once in a lifetime experience for most. Lunch exceeded expectations. Highly recommend!

Terrific Day in Pompeii & Herculaneum - We really wanted to take the high speed train to Pompeii, to maximize our time in Pompeii. There was a guide to get us on the train, and one meeting us in Naples as we got off the train, so we didn't have to plan anything ourselves. Our guide to Pompeii & Herculaneum, Paola, was a wealth of information about the sites. She made sure that we understood the history behind all the places we visited and made sure we saw sites that gave us good historical information about Pompeii and Herculaneum. My husband is celiac and they made sure that the restaurant had gluten free options. The lunch location was terrific. We only had 11 people on our tour, so it was easy to follow Paola and to ask questions. This was a terrific experience.

An absolutely fantastic day. - This was an absolutely fantastic experience. The guides were helpful and informative, making sure we were always in the right place at the right time without rushing us at all. The day was well paced, and our guides were lovely. The organized tour takes all the stress out of planning your own trip from Rome to Naples, and the whole day was wonderful, from the tours of the historic sites, to the 3 course lunch.

Terrific full day outing to Pompeii / Herculaneum from Rome - Our guide, Ciara, was terrific - so knowledgeable and took us to places in Pompeii what were the least crowded for the most part. The arena / theater is amazing. We are frequent travelers to Europe and lunch was the the best included meal we have ever had - beer, a nice choice of an entree, a cold and delicious green bean salad and a wonderful cold tiramisu / gelato. Overall wonderful and worth every penny... seamless train trip both ways with the guide waiting exactly where stated in Naples. Thanks for a fabulous day trip!

This is a must see. Make sure to wear your walking shoes. Our guide was amazing and kept us away from the beaten path.. - This is a quick trip from Rome on a high speed train - the guides will be there to help you find the correct trains and tracks.

This tour is a must! - This tour was amazing! Our guide Antonio was wonderful. He made sure we got the most out of our experience. The tour was not rushed and moved at a great pace that even kept our 6 yo occupied! Lunch was delicious and the tour guide and restaurant owner could not have been nicer to our group. I highly recommend this tour.

Well worth the cost! - Easy to get to via train. More time to spend at the sites. Our guide Chiara was wonderful- easy to understand and kept and she kept the group moving at a good pace. She answered our questions. Lunch was good but way too much food. Having it provided saved us time looking for something to eat. Both sites were amazing to see. Train ride back to Rome was nice and relaxing after a busy day.

A fascinating and profound experience - Both Pompeii and Herculaneum were extraordinary, and this tour was a fantastic way to experience them from Rome in a well-organised and thoughtfully structured day. Our guide, Felicia, truly made the experience. We learned so much that we would never have discovered on our own.
We were blown away by Felicia’s remarkable knowledge and expertise, but more than that, by the reverence and deep care she clearly has for these towns and the people who lived there. I was profoundly moved by her reflections, and touched by the way she honoured their lives and legacy. She gave meaning to the ruins, and purpose to what we learn from them today.
It’s a long day, but absolutely worth it. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Rome. It was the most important thing we’ve done while here, insightful, moving, and a beautifully human experience.
