- As this is a walking tour with steps, staircases and uneven surfaces, comfortable shoes and a bottle of water are strongly recommended.

- This is an inside archaeological site and even in the summer it can be cold, so you are advised to wear suitable clothing for this tour.
- The full names of all participants joining the tour are required in order to purchase tickets. Please provide the full names of all participants and please ensure to bring a government issued photo ID with you on the day of the tour. Should you not provide the names of the participants joining the tour as written on your governement issued photo-ID, you will not be able to enter the site.

Incredible experience and very interesting - Visiting Neros legendary palace was an incredible experience. Especially given that so much of the ceiling, wall and even floor decoration has been preserved. It was a special experience, made all the better with an informative guide and a well put together VR experience.

Exceeded expectations - If you’re returning to Rome and have already seen the well-known sites, consider adding the Domus Aurea 2-hour tour to your next itinerary. I had read this place was amazing, and it exceeded my expectations.
A few things to share: our first guide, Zenda, was friendly and passionate about history. She met us at the beginning, checked us all in, guided us to the site and stayed with us. For the inside part of the tour, Sara led us through and explained so many highlights and nuances. She knows this place very well and it was an honor to have her share with us. Both were wonderful and spoke English well.
The VR experience toward the end was cool and the screens along the tour showing what some rooms used to look like were well-done.
One heads up: there was a tiny bit of confusion at the beginning regarding the meeting place— it was actually across from the oppio caffè at the garden/park entrance. Not a big deal, but if you’re looking for your guide, they might be there, instead.
You do need to bring ID to get in and I was glad I brought my light sweater.
Grateful that the city of Rome is working on restoration of this long-hidden site and that they open it to be shared with visitors.

Amazing tour of an incredible place - Our tour guide was great; however, the actual tour of the Domus Aurea was conducted by a guide who was employed by the site. She was incredibly knowledgeable about this amazing place.

A lon awaited visit which didn't disappoint - Exceeded expectations - which were high already! Very well informed guide, Claudia, who paced the tour nicely and dealt with questions from a wide range of enthusiastic participants. Would advise a jumper or jacket - very cool environment (would be a fabulous visit in high summer).

Tour of Domus Aurea - Planned this for a long time, did not disappoint! Great tour Barbara our guide was very knowledgeable and explained all the history and details! What a great experience it is almost hard to image what was buried beneath the ground this beautiful historic ruin. The VR part of the tour was fun and really gave ou the perspective of what this “Golden Palace “ once looked like in life. Highly recommend this tour.

Good tour, could use more information - The archeological site is amazing, and I enjoyed the tour. Guests should take a jacket or sweater--it's cold underground!
Our guide was efficient and friendly, but I wish there was more historical context for the golden palace. How was it funded, did the citizens hate Nero because of his extravagant lifestyle, where did the materials come from, and so on. The guide told us one comment Nero made that showed his poor character--would have liked more of what others of his time thought, as well.
The video re-creation really helped to visualize the palace.

Unique tour - Unique experience made even better if you research in advance to know history. Lady Barbara was a kind and good guide but her English was a little hard to understand in spots....maybe because I am from South US.

I'm glad that we went to... - I'm glad that we went to the Domus Aurea--it's really cool to learn about and a unique experience given that it's still underground and being excavated. However, it was a long tour that seemed to lack structure or narrative. We learned some new things, but many things were left vague or unclear. We went in April 2025, so this tour was pretty new. I think (and hope) that the tour will get better with time/experience.
