Colosseum tickets - It was difficult to get direct tickets for the colosseum. This was a good second option. Yes more costly than paying direct and I was worried that tickets weren’t legit. However Artour tourist agency located near the colosseum were easy to find and efficient. Voucher easily exchanged for ticket without any fuss. We opted for just entry but this came with an audio guide app - although we didn’t use it. Very happy and would use Viator again.

Remember IDs and prepare to queue - A must see for everyone visiting Rome. We met tour operator above the metro (additional 5 minute up hill walk). We had to queue for around 10 minutes to show passports and tickets. We had access to the arena floor which I’d recommend and look also for tickets for the glass lift to go higher - we didn’t have . There were very long queues for the Roman forum again to show id and tickets.

Mandatory - The coliseum is huge, you can see everything from any view. The Roman forum and the mount take quite a lot of walking.

Convenient, easy, quick - We used this service to get tickets into the Colosseum including the arena for our visit to Rome in September. We had a pretty tight window of time, and this service had availability that worked for us. It was very easy. Our tourbus dropped us off near the Colosseum, we followed the very accurate directions from the confirmation email on how to get to the Artour office, where we were greeted by a very polite and professional gentleman. He gave us our tickets and told us where to enter the Colosseum, and we were out of the office within a couple minutes. We bypassed the long line to buy tickets and went directly to the security/entrance gate. Very easy. Remember to bring your US passport! They need to see that your names on your passports match the names on the tickets. We heard from others that drivers licenses were not accepted. Also, if you're at the Colosseum and looking for the office, face the metro station and go to the right a block or so, then up the stairs and to the left to the office, per the instructions. Due to the construction, that was the only part we weren't super clear on, but figured it out.

Don’t forget headphone - The process to collecting tickets was simple and the line to get into the Colosseum was quick and smooth. Bring headphones to assist listening to the audio guide as it is done through an app. This was information we did not know and it made it very difficult to hear and information. Be prepared for a commercialised visit with only small access areas and lots of people. The Roman forum was beautiful. The space is large and was much larger than anticipated. The line to get in took longer, but was a smooth process.

I could have been better prepared - I didn't download the audio before hand and we had to pay 15 euro per person to get a self guided audio tour there as when we tried to download what viator provided, it was slow in downloading. Lesson learned and they could have done a better job with suggesting this.

Get there hours early if you want audio - The man in the office were very nice but the failure of this tour is in the fact that the audio tour required the download of not only an app but also the associated map once the app was downloaded. These were large files that didn’t download in time to use even though we arrived over an hour before our your tour to check in. This could have been mitigated if it had been communicated prior to arrival to initiate the downloads since cell service for non locals can be challenging.

Complicated with babies - It was impossible for us to attend both the Roman and Palatine forums because of the weather, we were with a cart and a 2-year-old baby and it was raining with storm.
