• Porta San Sebastiano - This grand southern entrance to Rome, part of the Aurelian Walls constructed around 275 AD, marks the start of the historic Via Appia Antica. Visitors can admire its beauty and explore the medieval graffiti that reflect the centuries-old pilgrimage routes.
• Catacombs of Saint Callixtus - Explore the official burial site of the Church of Rome, the largest underground cemetery in the city, with corridors extending approximately 20km. Dating back to the second century BC, the catacombs are named after Deacon Callixtus I. Over 50 martyrs, 16 popes, and half a million Christians were interred here.
• Parco Della Caffarella - Now part of the Appia Antica Regional Park, Caffarella Park is one of the largest green spaces in Rome and Europe. It is a historical treasure trove, with ancient ruins scattered among its paths and groves.
• Ninfeo di Egeria - Be captivated by this sacred site that narrates the love story between the Nymph Egeria and Rome’s second King, Numa Pompilius. Egeria’s tears of grief upon learning of her beloved’s death gave rise to a spring.
• Mausoleo di Cecilia Metella e Castrum Caetani - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - This impressive mausoleum, a pagan tomb from the 1st century BC dedicated to Cecilia Metella, is part of the Castrum Caetani. It is the best-preserved mausoleum on the Via Appia Antica. Visitors can also see the remnants of the medieval Caetani family house and the church of San Nicola, with only its perimeter walls remaining.
• Park of the Aqueducts - Enjoy a lunch break in the shadow of the legendary Appian Way, where Italian specialties are served at a local restaurant. Note: available only on the 5-hour tour. In the afternoon, a delightful aperitif replaces lunch.
• Parco degli Acquedotti - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - Continue the e-bike tour through this vast green area, historically traversed by the Via Latina, Rome’s oldest road. This crossroads of Ancient Rome’s water network showcases the impressive Roman engineering through the remains of aqueducts, some well-preserved and still functioning.
• Villa dei Quintili e Santa Maria Nova - Parco Archeologico dell’Appia Antica - At the fifth mile of the Appian Way, admire the remains of the grand Villa dei Quintili, once owned by brothers Sesto Quintilio Condiano and Massimo Valerio, consuls in the second century AD. The villa was seized by Commodus I, who made it imperial property.
• Terme di Caracalla - Constructed by Emperor Caracalla, these baths were the largest public baths for nearly a century, with much of their structure still intact today. The Antoninian aqueduct, a branch of the Aqua Marcia, supplied water to the baths. Small remnants can be seen at Porta di San Sebastiano.
• Circus of Maxentius - Situated on the Via Appia Antica, the Circus of Maxentius is the best-preserved example of a Roman circus. Visitors can step back in time amidst the ancient ruins. The spina, still visible, once held the Agonale obelisk, which was relocated during the Renaissance to the Fountain of the Four Rivers in Piazza Navona.

This tour guides you through the Ancient Appian Way Regional Park, one of Europe’s largest urban protected areas. Participants will be immersed in the history of the Ancient Appian Way, a Roman road from the 4th century BC, stretching over 500km and connecting Rome to Brindisi in southern Italy. This road, not only a military route, conceals many secrets, beautiful villas, and historical sites. Highlights include the Circus of Maxentius and the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, among others.

St. Callixtus’s Catacombs are part of the Callistian complex, an area covering about 30 hectares between the Via Appia Antica, the Via Ardeatina, and the Via delle Sette Chiese in Rome, featuring various funerary areas and catacombs.
