Fun digging into the layers of ancient and modern Rome - We greatly enjoyed our tour of mysteries and legends in Rome. Donatella is very knowledgeable about the history of the churches we visited, and showed us the more hidden paintings and sculptures in them. She also has a great sense of humor and love for her subject. We were especially fascinated by the Clement villa/church, a four-layered archeological "lasagna", starting deep underground where there are the recently uncovered remains of ancient pagan mystery temples, a Roman Empire period mint, on up to a modern Catholic Church, all built on top of each other. Near the end of the tour we were exhausted so Donatella kindly bought us coffee and thus fortified, we finished at the astonishing Basilica of St. John Lateran which is overlooked in favor of St. Peter's. We needed a taxi back to our hotel and Donatella mysteriously summoned one on the spot. Because of Donatella we fell in love with the mysterious and legendary places we visited and hope to return to them someday.

Wonderful experience - Martin, our guide was excellent. He was very knowledgeable and we learned a ton about mosaics. The churches were beautiful, especially St. Mary Maggiore.
