San Jose to Arenal Volcano

On the way to Arenal Volcano, there will be a stop at the renowned town of Sarchi, celebrated as the birthplace of Costa Rica’s artisans. In Sarchi, visitors can admire a variety of Costa Rican crafts and souvenirs. Additionally, they will see the world’s largest ox cart, as recognized by the Guinness Book of Records. This cart stands two stories high, measures nearly 45 feet long (14 meters), weighs 4400 lbs. (2 tons), and took 70 days to complete. Crafted from cedar wood and adorned with vibrant colors, it is designed in the style of traditional oxcarts.

The journey continues through diverse plantations featuring agricultural products such as pineapple and plantain farms, mango groves, ornamental plants, and cattle ranches, until reaching the quaint town of La Fortuna. Here, guests will enjoy lunch at a charming restaurant with a magnificent view of the volcano.

The awe-inspiring Arenal Volcano is a remarkable natural wonder located in La Fortuna (The Fortune) of San Carlos. Once thought to be dormant, it erupted dramatically in 1968. Today, it attracts tourists from around the globe, eager to witness volcanic activity, including the white smoke plumes that rise from the conical giant.

Visitors will then relax at one of the area’s premier hot springs, enjoying the cleansing and rejuvenating effects of the thermal waters. Optional massages or special treatments can be reserved in advance to ensure availability. Spa treatments are not included and are payable directly at the resort.

The hot springs resort harmonizes the four elements of nature: the volcano’s heat, the hot springs’ flowing waters, the rainforest’s pure air, and the fertile earth of the Fortuna de San Carlos region.

Five main springs supply highly mineralized water, heated underground by the Arenal Volcano’s magma. Guests will discover numerous cascading waterfalls and warm pools along the riverbed, offering varying temperatures, water flows, and degrees of privacy.

A key part of exploring the enchanting world of the hot springs is soaking in the cascading thermal waterfalls. This natural hydrotherapy is an excellent way to achieve deep relaxation. The river-pool temperatures range from 72 to 105 degrees Fahrenheit.

Arenal Volcano Adventure

La Fortuna Waterfall - Experience an authentic jungle adventure filled with adrenaline and environmental harmony.

A 3 km (2 mile) zip line adventure trail leads to the Pino Blanco waterfall, surrounded by canyons up to 120 meters high (360 feet). The Arenal Volcano and Cerro Chato await.

Enjoy the only zip line excursion that allows you to soar over La Fortuna waterfall, on a cable of 980 meters (more than ½ mile!), at a spectacular height.

After the zip line adventure, guests will visit the Villaku Indigenous Cultural Rescue Center.

Upon completing the exploration of the Maleku culture, guests will ride back to the reception point, where they can admire nature up close.
