Meet various members of this urban indigenous community and delve into their culture, traditions, and recent history. Discover how these resilient Shipibo artisans are striving to preserve their traditions and sustain their cultural heritage. Despite facing challenges and starting anew, they have successfully advanced by showcasing and teaching their art. This includes not only traditional Shipibo textiles and crafts but also contemporary Shipibo fashion.
- Comunidad Shipibo Conibo Cantagallo - The distinctive Shipibo style, which forms the basis of their art, crafts, and indigenous culture, is known as Kené. Recognized as a National Cultural Heritage in 2008, Kené features geometric patterns painted or embroidered on the face, body, ceramics, or textiles. These designs symbolize energy or a positive force and can be expressed through embroidery, painting, jewelry, and body painting.
You will have the opportunity to try some of these techniques yourself, accompanied by Ikaro singing, which are medicine songs typically performed by shamans during healing ceremonies. Despite residing in the bustling city, they maintain a deep spiritual connection, like all indigenous people.
