Setting Sail on the Madiana

The sun was just beginning to cast its golden glow over the Rivière Noire District as I made my way to the marina. The anticipation of a day spent on the water, exploring the west coast of Mauritius, had me buzzing with excitement. As a former professional surfer, the ocean has always been my playground, and today promised to be an adventure like no other.

Upon arrival, I was greeted by the friendly crew of the Madiana, a luxurious catamaran that would be our vessel for the day. With only ten of us on board, the atmosphere was intimate and relaxed, a perfect setting for a day of exploration. We set off around 9:00, the gentle hum of the motorboat taking us to the catamaran, where the real journey would begin.

Our first stop was a detour to see the dolphins. As we sailed through the crystal-clear waters, the sight of these magnificent creatures playing in the waves was nothing short of magical. Snorkeling and a Seafood Feast

With the dolphins bidding us farewell, we set sail towards Le Morne, a stunning backdrop for our next adventure. The crew, attentive and enthusiastic, ensured we had everything we needed as we prepared to snorkel on a vibrant reef teeming with marine life. The water was inviting, and as I dove in, I was greeted by a kaleidoscope of colorful fish, a sight that never fails to take my breath away.

Back on board, the aroma of a mouth-watering BBQ filled the air. The crew had prepared a seafood feast that was as delicious as it was satisfying. With free-flowing drinks and the gentle sway of the catamaran, it was a moment of pure bliss, a reminder of why I love island life so much.

After lunch, we took a dinghy ride around the famous Crystal Rock, a natural wonder that seemed to rise majestically from the sea. We also spent some time on Ile aux Benitiers, a small island where coconuts and pearls were on offer. It was a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, a hallmark of any great island excursion.

A Tranquil Return

As the day began to wind down, we set sail back towards the Black River, the turquoise sea glistening under the afternoon sun. The crew played soft, pleasant music, creating a serene atmosphere that was the perfect end to an unforgettable day.

The Madiana was in impeccable condition, with plenty of shade for those who needed it and four marine toilets for convenience. The crew’s attentiveness and motivation were above average, ensuring that every guest felt comfortable and cared for.

As we docked back at the marina, I couldn’t help but reflect on the day’s adventures.
