As a seasoned surfer, I’ve had the privilege of riding waves in some of the most stunning locations across Central America. But when I heard about the unique surfing spots in Gerupuk Bay, I knew I had to experience it for myself. Nestled in the heart of Indonesia, Gerupuk Bay offers a diverse range of waves that cater to surfers of all skill levels. The bay is home to five distinct spots, each with its own personality and charm.

Upon arriving, I was immediately captivated by the vibrant energy of the place. The sun was shining, the water was a mesmerizing shade of blue, and the waves were calling my name. I couldn’t wait to dive in and explore what Gerupuk Bay had to offer. With my board waxed and ready, I set out to conquer the waves, starting with the famous Gerupuk Inside.

Riding the Waves

Gerupuk Inside is a right-hand reef break that offers a long wall and a forgiving lip, making it perfect for surfers of all levels. The soft reef bed beneath the waves provides a gentle landing, which is always a plus. As I paddled out, I could feel the anticipation building. The waves were consistent, and the crowd was friendly, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie among surfers.

Next, I ventured to Kids Point, a spot that requires a big swell to truly shine. Despite its name, Kids Point can be quite challenging, with fast, hollow waves that sometimes barrel. It was exhilarating to ride these waves, feeling the rush of adrenaline as I navigated the powerful surf. The thrill of catching a perfect wave is something that never gets old, no matter how many times you’ve done it.

Exploring More Spots

After a satisfying session at Kids Point, I decided to check out Don Don, an easy A-frame with fun left and right shoulders. This spot is ideal for those looking to enjoy a more relaxed surf, with forgiving takeoffs and playful waves. The outgoing tide and light winds made for a perfect day on the water, and I found myself grinning from ear to ear as I rode wave after wave.

For those seeking a bit more of a challenge, the Outside Right and Outside Left spots offer heavier waves and bigger drops. These spots are best suited for intermediate to experienced surfers, and they provide an opportunity to test your skills and push your limits. The short boat ride from the village to these breaks adds an element of adventure to the experience, making it all the more rewarding.

Gerupuk Bay truly has something for everyone, whether you’re a beginner looking to catch your first wave or an experienced surfer seeking a new challenge.
