A) Due to new traffic regulations, vehicles are not permitted inside the Old Town—only pedestrians. The tour can conclude at one of the Old Town gates, allowing visitors to explore independently and walk back to the ship. The walk from the Medieval City to the Cruise Port is a simple 5-minute stroll. This saves time and money, as there is no need to pay for the driver’s waiting time.
B) No worries—our knowledgeable drivers can provide guidance on how to walk through the Old Town back to the ship. Simply ask your driver!
- Mandraki Harbour - Located in the new part of town, Mandraki port features impressive monumental buildings constructed by the Italians. It is believed that the great statue of the Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, once stood at the harbor entrance.
We will pause for photos of the area, and visitors can also enter and see the Church of the Annunciation, the most renowned church in Rhodes Town. Situated north of Mandraki, the old port of the town, this church was built in the 1920s during the Italian occupation of the island.
The Church of the Annunciation is celebrated on March 25th with a large religious festival.
- Colossus of Rhodes - The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a massive statue of the god Helios. Created by the sculptor Chares of Lindos, it was constructed from 292 BC to 280 BC and was considered the tallest structure of its time, standing at 30 feet.
Built to commemorate the defeat of the Roman Army, which attempted to seize control of Rhodes, this enormous statue depicted a man holding a bow in one hand and a torch of light in the other. The statue of Colossus was placed in the port, with its feet positioned at the entrance’s edges, allowing ships to pass beneath it.
However, in an earthquake-prone area, the inevitable occurred. In 226 BC, just 56 years after its construction, an earthquake struck Rhodes, causing the statue to collapse. Breaking at the knees, the statue fell onto the land and shattered into large pieces.
A sad end for what must have been a magnificent work of art.
- The Acropolis of Rhodes - Continue through the city to admire more of the remarkable Italian architecture. There will be a stop for photos at the northern tip of the island, where the Mediterranean and Aegean seas converge.
Then, proceed to Monthe Smith Hill, where visitors can enjoy stunning panoramic views of the city and coastline, and visit the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the impressive open-air ancient Stadium, and the Amphitheatre.
- Anthony Quinn Bay - With natural stone surfaces perfect for sunbathing, pine trees reaching the water’s edge, and emerald green water, Anthony Quinn displayed excellent taste when he fell in love with this small bay. The beach is now named after the actor, who purchased this part of the island while filming “The Guns of Navarone” here.
Beach services include sunbeds, umbrellas, and a restaurant. This picturesque beach is very popular and tends to become crowded during the summer months, especially in July and August. It is ideal for scuba diving enthusiasts.
- Faliraki Beach - The 4-kilometer-long sandy beach in Faliraki is undoubtedly one of the most popular beaches in Rhodes.
Amenities include sunbeds, umbrellas, showers, and public toilets. Visitors can find everything they need here—water sports, cafes, nightclubs, restaurants, bungee-jumping, shopping venues, and more.
- Kallithea - Agia Marina beach is located 2 km along Rodou-Kallithea Avenue. As visitors descend the stairs, they will be captivated by the idyllic landscape, the view of the small bay with the sandy beach, where Santa Marina is situated. Small rocks rising from the sea complete the natural beauty of the landscape.
Santa Marina is the perfect place for relaxation. Boho decor, wood, bamboo, and comfortable sunbeds create a sense of simple luxury. This place feels like an exotic getaway.
- Kallithea Springs - A paradise for snorkelers and scuba divers, Kallithea is also renowned for its marvelous Italian baths and thermal springs, which have been famous since antiquity.
