• Old Town of Rhodes - Begin the excursion with a scenic drive around the walls of the Old Town of Rhodes, offering opportunities to photograph the most significant Gates from the outside. This is the largest inhabited medieval town in Europe, constructed in the 1300s by the Knights of the Order of St. John. The Medieval Town of Rhodes is recognized as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

A) Due to recent traffic regulations, vehicles are prohibited inside the Old Town—only pedestrians are allowed. The tour can conclude at one of the Old Town gates, giving you the chance to explore independently and walk back to the ship. The walk from the Medieval City to the Cruise Port is a simple 5-minute stroll, saving you time and money by avoiding driver waiting fees.

• Mandraki Harbour - Located in the newer part of town, Mandraki port features impressive monumental buildings constructed by the Italians. It is believed that the entrance to the harbor was once graced by the great statue of the Colossus of Rhodes—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World.

We will pause for photos in the area, and you will also have the opportunity to enter and view the Church of the Annunciation, the most renowned church in Rhodes Town. Situated north of Mandraki, the old port of the town, this church was built in the 1920s during the Italian occupation of the island.

The Church of the Annunciation is celebrated on March 25th with a grand religious festival.

• Colossus of Rhodes - The Colossus of Rhodes, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, was a colossal statue of the god Helios. Created by the sculptor Chares of Lindos, it was constructed from 292 BC to 280 BC and was considered the tallest structure of its time, standing at 30 feet.

Built to commemorate the defeat of the Roman Army, which attempted to seize control of Rhodes, this enormous statue depicted a man holding a bow in one hand and a torch of light in the other. The statue of Colossus was positioned in the port, with its feet on either side of the entrance, allowing ships to pass beneath it.

However, in an earthquake-prone area, the inevitable occurred. In 226 BC, just 56 years after its construction, an earthquake struck Rhodes, causing the statue to collapse. Breaking at the knees, the statue fell onto the land and shattered into large pieces.

A tragic end for what must have been a magnificent work of art.

• The Acropolis of Rhodes - Continuing through the city, more of the remarkable Italian architecture will be seen. There will be a stop for photos at the northern tip of the island, where the Mediterranean and Aegean seas converge.

Then, the journey proceeds to Monthe Smith Hill, where exceptional panoramic views of the city and coastline can be enjoyed, along with visits to the ruins of the Temple of Apollo, the impressive open-air ancient Stadium, and the Amphitheatre.

• Giannis Ceramic - Upon request, the tour can include a stop at a pottery factory.

Here, the process of creating beautiful ceramics can be observed. Rhodes boasts a long history of pottery, dating back many centuries to the era of the ancient cities.

Replicas of designs from those times are still produced today, alongside new modern designs by a younger generation.

• Saint Paul’s Bay - Just before reaching the charming village of Lindos, a stop will be made for a panoramic view of the village and its Acropolis atop.

Before entering the village, a visit to the picturesque St. Paul’s Bay will occur. It is said that St. Paul landed here in 51 AD to preach Christianity to the Rhodians. A small church has been built in his honor.

A stop will be made for photos to capture this breathtaking view.

• Lindos - There will be at least a one-hour stay to explore the village and visit its renowned Acropolis.

The Acropolis in Lindos is the second most popular Acropolis in Greece, following the Parthenon in Athens.

• Faliraki Beach - On the return journey, the last 14 km / 8 miles of the route follow the coastal road of Faliraki and Kallithea.

Faliraki is open only during the summer season and is designed solely to provide visitors with an unforgettable vacation. Its beaches are predominantly sandy, with crystal-clear waters as smooth as glass.

• Kallithea Springs - The return to Rhodes Town includes passing through Kallithea, a stunning natural landscape where the movie “Escape to Athena,” starring Telly Savalas and Roger Moore, was filmed. Additionally, some scenes from “The Guns of Navarone” were shot here as well.

Upon returning to Rhodes Old Town, you can enjoy independent exploration or head back to the ship (or your hotel). The Medieval City is just a 5-minute flat walk from the cruise port.

You’ll have ample time (over an hour) to navigate its winding streets and visit the breathtaking Acropolis at the pinnacle. Following this, we’ll head back to the point where we began.
