Iceland is the only place on Earth where you can experience the incredible combination of a hike to an active volcanic eruption and an evening aurora hunting tour. Your adventure begins in the late morning with a tour to the eruption site at Meradalir. This involves a 1.5-2 hour hike each way over uneven terrain, which is considered moderately challenging for an average, reasonably fit individual.
Marvel at the sight as thousands of cubic meters of molten magma erupt from the volcano’s core.
After your time at the volcano, you will be transported back to the city, where you’ll have time for dinner and to refresh before embarking on your evening northern lights hunting tour. Our guides, who have consulted the aurora forecast from the Icelandic Met Office, will take you to the areas most likely to be clear of clouds, hoping to witness the aurora’s dazzling light display. We will visit 2 or 3 locations to ensure the best possible view. This Northern Lights tour typically lasts around 4 hours.
