Here, the North American and European tectonic plates separate at a rate of 2-6 cm annually. Thingvellir is also the historic site where the ancient Icelandic parliament was founded in 930.

Geysir - Next, visit the Geysir hot spring area, famous for the original Geysir hot spring that lent its name to all other geysers. Although Geysir is no longer active, the Strokkur hot spring erupts every few minutes.

Fridheimar - Proceed to Friðheimar, a distinctive geothermal greenhouse showcasing how tomatoes and other plants are cultivated year-round using sustainable energy.

Gullfoss Waterfall - Then, be captivated by Gullfoss, the magnificent golden waterfall, celebrated for its stunning beauty and powerful cascades.

Vik - Travel to accommodations near Vik for a 2-night stay. In the evening, there is an opportunity to search for the Northern Lights, weather and aurora activity permitting, with the possibility of postponement to the second night in the countryside.

White Glaciers and Black Sands

Jokulsarlon - Journey east along the southern coast to the remarkable Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon. Formed around 60 years ago, the Lagoon is a result of continuous calving and falling icebergs from the Breiðamerkurjökull glacier tongue. The icebergs, in shades of milky white and bright blue, create a stunning interplay of light and ice crystals.

The Lagoon is teeming with fish that drift in from the sea with the tides. During winter, seals gather in large numbers at the Lagoon’s mouth to catch fish, offering a spectacular sight.

Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon - Nearby, explore Diamond Beach, famous for its striking black sand adorned with sparkling icebergs washed ashore. These icebergs, originating from the glacier lagoon, provide a breathtaking contrast against the dark volcanic sand, making it a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers. Vatnajokull National Park - On the return trip, pass through the breathtaking Vatnajökull National Park.
