White Glaciers & Black Sands

Jokulsarlon - Travel east along the southern coast to the remarkable Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon and the Diamond Beach. The Lagoon formed around 60 years ago with a continuous process of calving and falling icebergs from the glacier tongue Breiðamerkurjökull. These icebergs appear in two shades: milky white and bright blue, a play of light and ice crystals. The Lagoon is teeming with fish that drift in from the sea with the tides. Seals gather in large numbers at the Lagoon’s mouth to catch fish during winter, which is a sight to behold.

Diamond Beach Jokulsarlon - Nearby, visit the Diamond Beach, famous for its striking black sand adorned with sparkling icebergs that have washed ashore. These icebergs, originating from the glacier lagoon, create a stunning contrast against the dark volcanic sand, making it a favorite spot for photographers and nature lovers. The ever-changing landscape of ice fragments glistening in the sunlight offers a unique and captivating experience.

Vatnajokull National Park - On the return trip, journey through the breathtaking Vatnajökull National Park. This expansive protected area is home to Europe’s largest glacier, dramatic mountain peaks, and powerful waterfalls cascading into deep valleys. Volcanos, Waterfalls and the Blue Lagoon

Reynisfjara Beach - On this day, enjoy a drive along Iceland’s south coast. This coastal road offers views of glacier tongues, waterfalls, rugged hills, black sand beaches, and its renowned volcanoes. Visit the black sand beach at Reynisfjara to observe the geological formations and the crashing waves. Exercise caution as the waves can be dangerous.

Skogafoss - Visit Skógafoss, with a drop of 60 meters (197 feet) and a width of 25 meters (82 feet), it creates a breathtaking display, especially on sunny days when rainbows often form in the mist. Blue Lagoon - The final highlight before returning to Reykjavik is the spectacular Blue Lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is on the National Geographic list of 25 wonders of the world, described as a geothermal gift of nature. Enjoy soaking in the mineral-rich water with its fine silica mud experience (this is an optional extra).

Reykjavik - From the Blue Lagoon, return to Reykjavik and be dropped off at your hotel.
