- Thingvellir National Park - Discover the fascinating and sometimes grim history of Iceland at Thingvellir National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Walk the grounds where Icelandic democracy was born and visit sites of Viking-era justice, including the Drowning Pool and Gallows Rock. Thingvellir is also where two tectonic plates are slowly drifting apart, creating a breathtaking landscape of steep cliffs and expansive fields, featuring Thingvallavatn, Iceland’s largest natural lake.
- Geysir - The Great Geysir, the original of its kind, is located in Haukadalur within the Geysir Geothermal Area. This area is alive with geothermal activity, from steam vents to boiling mud pits, with the geysers being the main attraction. Geysir has lent its name to all other geysers worldwide.
- Strokkur - Although the Great Geysir erupts infrequently, with the last eruption in 2016, the nearby Strokkur geyser erupts regularly, thrilling spectators by shooting hot water high into the air every few minutes.
- Gullfoss Waterfall - Gullfoss, known as the golden falls, is Iceland’s most famous waterfall, which is impressive in a country with thousands of waterfalls. Many consider it one of Iceland’s most beautiful and certainly one of the largest. The thunderous sound of the Hvita River plunging 32 meters over two tiers into the gorge below is exhilarating. On sunny days, rainbows abound in the mist rising from the falls, and several paths around the waterfall, including one leading to its base, make it a perfect spot for photography. Be sure to bring a raincoat and have your camera ready.
