Once everyone is on board, we’ll leave the city lights behind and journey into the vast, tranquil darkness of Iceland’s countryside. As we search the skies for the Aurora Borealis, the route may lead us past some of the country’s stunning natural landmarks—hidden in shadow but unveiled by your guide’s expert eye and knowledge.

By traveling along less-frequented rural roads, we avoid the crowds and enhance our chances of witnessing the Northern Lights in all their splendor, along with the peaceful beauty of Iceland’s night sky.

• Iceland - When conditions are favorable, your guide will select the ideal viewing spot based on the evening’s weather forecasts. Then, it’s time to settle in and await nature’s spectacle. The Northern Lights typically dance about 100 kilometers (60 miles) above the Earth’s surface—an ethereal display originating near the north magnetic pole. Watching ribbons of color sweep across the sky feels almost otherworldly, as if the cosmos itself were painting over the night.

Be sure to dress warmly, as the Icelandic night air can be brisk. A fleece sweater or one of our cozy blankets will help keep the chill at bay while you wait. To make the moment even more comforting, we’ll serve you a steaming cup of cocoa paired with a sweet chocolate treat.
