ITINERARY FOR THE WEEKEND OF APRIL 12 - APRIL 13, 2025

Reykholt’s Indoor Retreat: Embrace Iceland’s Warmth Amidst April’s Overcast Skies

Discover the warmth of Reykholt’s indoor retreats amidst April’s overcast skies. From exploring ancient lava caves to soaking in geothermal pools, this journey through Iceland’s history and natural beauty offers a captivating escape from the unpredictable weather.

Embracing the Saga: A Journey Through Time and Nature

Reykholt, Borgarbyggð, a place where the echoes of ancient sagas resonate amidst the modern comforts of geothermal warmth. As April’s overcast skies loom, the allure of Iceland’s indoor retreats beckons. The Borgarfjordur Saga Tour offers a captivating journey through the heart of Icelandic history and natural beauty. Starting at 9:00 AM, this tour is a perfect escape from the unpredictable weather, immersing you in the tales of the Icelanders’ survival against the elements.

The tour takes you to the largest lava cave, Vidgelmir, where the earth’s raw power is on full display. As you navigate the cave’s depths, the stories of Viking resilience come alive, painting a vivid picture of life in this harsh yet beautiful land. The journey continues to the Hraunfossar Lava Waterfall, a mesmerizing sight where water cascades from beneath a lava field, creating a spectacle of nature’s artistry. The day culminates at the Krauma Spa, where the geothermal waters of Deildartunguhver offer a soothing embrace, a stark contrast to the cold, overcast skies outside.

“Hraunfossar Lava Waterfall is a MUST SEE with Fridjon - We booked this tour to take us to the Lava Falls and to the ‘Into the Glacier’ ICE Cave. Fridjon (our tour guide) was amazing. He was so knowledgeable about Iceland and its history. We could not have asked for anyone better. If you have the opportunity to book Fridjon as your guide on this journey, please do it. You will not be sorry.” - Reviewed at 2020-01-08

The Geothermal Heartbeat: Krauma Spa and Beyond

As the weather remains unpredictable, the West Iceland Tour offers a sanctuary of warmth and relaxation. Available from 9:00 AM, this tour invites you to soak in the geothermal pools of Krauma, where the water’s warmth is a testament to Iceland’s volcanic heart. The spa’s serene environment provides a perfect retreat from the overcast skies, allowing you to unwind and rejuvenate.

The tour also takes you through the scenic landscapes of West Iceland, where the beauty of Hvalfjörður and Borgarfjarðarbraut unfolds. These locations, steeped in folklore and natural wonder, offer a glimpse into the soul of Iceland. The journey is punctuated by visits to the famous waterfalls, Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, where the water’s relentless flow mirrors the indomitable spirit of the Icelandic people.

“Great day in West Iceland - Wonderful day out with Anton. This side of Iceland is massively underrated and we had such a nice day out seeing absolutely beautiful waterfalls, fjords and then relaxing at the Krauma Spa which was super nice. It’s also much less crowded at least when we were there than the Sky Lagoon I’m sure because of its distance from Reykjavik. In general, would recommend this itinerary for anyone looking to go outside the ‘typical’ tourist destinations and tours offered by so many other companies, this route was exactly as described, unique and would highly recommend.” - Reviewed at 2024-09-11
