Additional Information

The southern region of Iceland possesses a compelling mix of pure energy and sublime aesthetics, courtesy of its volcanoes. The region’s Southern Coast is the home of some of the country’s most captivating views, encompassing the Seljalandsfoss and Skogafoss waterfalls, the Reynisfjara black sand beach, the quaint town of Vik, and views of the Eyjafjallajokull and Myrdalsjokull glaciers.

For this private tour, flexibility is a key element. We’re privy to a number of tucked-away locations, hidden from the regular tourist path. We enjoy unveiling these secret spots to small groups in intimate exploration excursions, though we’re mindful not to popularize them to the point of overcrowding.

Incredible South Coast Adventure with Dofri and Reykjavik Errupts - This was the third of three tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts. I wrote separate reviews for both of those tours as well. I was a bit sad that this was going to be the last day of tours I did with Dofri and Reykjavik Erupts, but at the same time, I was excited to go because I knew our guide had some more fun adventures planned for us that day. He did not disappoint! Dofri and our canine guides (Hneta and Kvika) picked us up again at our hotel. Before starting our tour, they were kind enough to bring us back to see the Icelandic horses again. It was a short stop, and we were soon on the road again with our first stop being an out-of-the-way pit stop where I could buy an Icelandic sweater (lopapeysa). Dofri had paid attention to what I mentioned in conversation the previous day and took me to a place where I could get exactly what I wanted at a fraction of the cost in downtown Reykjavik! It was a long trip from Reykjavik to our first stop, Skogafoss. On the way, Dofri introduced us more to Icelandic culture and tradition and continued the Saga of Egil that he told us the previous day on our trip around the Golden Circle. And he taught us some Icelandic lullabies (he has a wonderful singing voice). Again, he was more of a friend than just a tour guide. The time and distance between stops could be long, and he made the time fly by. After visiting Skogafoss, at our request, Dofri headed to Vik for lunch. He knew an out-of-the-way place (away from the tour busses) with great food. I had the best arctic char there. Dofri was great for knowing all the best places to eat. He even helped us make reservations for dinner after our tours with him. He goes above and beyond what's expected. After Vik, we visited Reynisfjara Beach, the famous black sand beach. Dofri explained how the awesome columns were formed. I should note, on all three tours he was a wealth of geological information. I learned so much from him regarding Iceland's geology. He explained things so well that visiting the Perlan museum was just a recap for me (it's a wonderful place to visit too). We did a quick stop at a glacier. I am disappointed in myself for not taking note of the name, but I was so excited at the time to hike up to it. Because our stops were relatively short (it's hard for mom to walk around) there was some extra time. Dofri (and Hneta) stayed with mom to keep her company while my canine guide Kvika went with me to hike up to see the glacier. I was so glad to have someone to keep mom company so I was able to do some things she couldn't do. I was also happy to be walking with Kvika. Our last stop of the day was Seljalandsfoss. We drove by it earlier and didn't stop, but Dofri had a very good reason for this. We didn't get to walk behind it because it was closed due to ice, but it was still breathtaking. One of my favorite things here was seeing the hidden waterfall nearby Gljúfrafoss. Dofri helped me into the narrow and slippery canyon that led up to the falls. I am glad he was there with me to show me the way and keep me from falling on the slippery rocks (I can be clumsy). The last thing I needed was to get hurt in the middle of my trip. On the long drive back, our private guide and skald continued with sagas he started. Between the sites, the sagas, and meeting the locals, Dofri crafted a unique and unforgettable Iceland adventure for me and my mom. I highly recommend Reykjavik Erupts and Dofri in particular to anyone who wants to book a private tour in Iceland. I booked a private guide because I brought my elderly mom with me on a short trip to Iceland, and I knew private tours would be best considering our limited time and her mobility issues. Dofri made sure our Iceland experience was priceless. Please see my other reviews (Golden Circle and Visit the Volcanoes) for more information about Reykjavik Erupts. I fully plan to go back to Iceland in the future, and I will be sure to book Reykjavik Erupts again when I do.

Incredible Day with Dofri - It was an incredible day with Dofri on the south coast of Iceland. He was able to avoid the crowds while taking us to the best sites on the south coast. He even brought along his two dogs, Hneta and Kvika, who greatly enhanced the experience. They were highlights of the trip. In addition to the wonderful day he was able to help us secure a last minute rental car for the next day. Dofri is a very experienced guide and we highly recommend booking with him

Great tour - We spent a great day with Dofri. He was interesting and informative and looked after us when we got rain soaked and hungry. He made us hot chocolate with donuts and provided us with blankets and towels when we got drenched. He was a lot of fun and I would highly recommend touring Iceland with Dofri!

Fabulous day - We had a wonderful tour with Dofri to places on the South Coast and the highlands. Dofri was very personable and responded to our interests and preferences. We went to some very off-the beaten-track locations that were beautiful and unique. We also got to know Dofri and in doing so felt we had a new friend and more insight into Iceland and its issues and values. The day was really enjoyable and we felt we had experiences we would never have had with a traditional tour. We will always remember this day.

Very private and amazing! - Dofri took us to stunning landscapes, amazing quiet places, hardly anyone else there! He knows a lot of history and old tales. He is very creative as a tourist guide, we enjoyed a fantastic hot chocolate with Icelandic doughnuts in a cave by the lake with a few trolls surrounding us. Don´t miss this opportunity!
