- Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic - A Brief History of the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic. This globally recognized place of worship houses the left canine tooth of Gautama Buddha. Thousands of local and international devotees and tourists visit daily. UNESCO designated it a world heritage site in 1988. The temple holds significant cultural and religious value for Buddhists worldwide. Its architecture showcases the unique Kandyan style, combined with the style used in previous “Dalada Mandira” shrines. Located in Kandy, near the ancient Royal Palace to the north and the “Udawaththa Kelaya” forest reserve to the east, the temple is also close to the famous Kandy Lake, known as “Kiri Muhuda.” The temple is beautifully adorned with intricate carvings in gold, silver, bronze, and ivory.
- Royal Botanical Gardens - The Peradeniya Botanical Garden dates back to 1371. Initially a pleasure garden for a Kandyan queen, it is surrounded on three sides by a large bend in the Mahaweli River. It served as a residence for a Kandyan prince in the 18th century and became one of the British Empire’s greatest botanical gardens in the early 1800s. During World War II, it briefly served as the Allied Forces Headquarters for Asia. The gardens boast over 4,000 plant species, with highlights including a stunning orchid collection and a grand avenue of palm trees. Visitors can also explore a wide variety of medicinal plants and spices. Spanning over 60 hectares, the gardens feature beautifully designed lawns, pavilions, and plant houses, offering a fragrant and colorful display of Sri Lankan, Asian, and international flora.
- Ramboda Waterfall - Ramboda Falls stands at 109 meters, making it the 11th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka and the 729th highest in the world. Located in the Pussellawa area on the A5 highway at Ramboda Pass, it is formed by Panna Oya, a tributary of Kothmale Oya. The falls are situated at an altitude of 945 meters above sea level.
