Perfect tour! - There were 4 of us in our party, so it ended up just being the 4 of us for the tour. Manuel picked us up from the Westin and arrived about 15 mins early. We drove for a while before arriving at the waterfalls. He chatted with us along the way and it made the time go by much faster! He had some sort of thing (maybe a spotter scope?) that he used to zoom in to animals far away, so he set that up at the waterfalls. Once we were done in the water, he zoomed into an iguana that was pretty far up and that was pretty cool! When we went to the chocolate and coffee tour, there weren’t many interesting animals to see but when we went to the rain forest area to see the sloths, frogs, etc. his tool came in handy! We were all spotting various toucan species as well as other birds. We were able to see 4 sloths and one was super close!! On our way back, we made a stop about half way and went to a souvenir shop and bathroom. He got us back at the time promised and was so very gracious to drop us off at the W as opposed to the Westin since we mentioned to him that’s actually where we were staying. Manuel was an excellent guide!! He was so knowledgeable of the different birds and other animals that we saw. He kept us entertained on our ride to/from our resort and was so friendly in general! We were also so happy to be able to see so many different wildlife species in the rain forest and Stephen (guide at the rain forest) was very funny and he was great too! The lunch was just ok, but I guess we can’t have it all! I’d definitely recommend doing this tour and especially having Manuel as a guide!

Amazing animal views - This was such a great tour! I’m so glad we ended up picking this tour. Manuel was the absolute BEST! Not only was he super informative about everything we saw, he also was able to answer all the questions we asked about Costa Rican culture and history. The waterfall was great but the nature walk was even BETTER! I can not express enough how cool it was to see all the animals up close. I would 100% recommend this tour to anyone who wants to see animals up close and taste some freshly ground coffee and chocolate.

Fabulous guide, mix of activities, and lots of wildlife sightings - Our driver/guide, Manuel, was punctual and kind and so informative! He provided flexibility on which part of the tour to start with, continue with, and end with according to weather patterns, which made best use of the tour day. Manuel was bilingual and had a great command of English. He was so generous, knowledgeable, and accommodating and taught us so much about the Costa Rican culture and language. Manuel brought his telescope on the tour which made it so much easier to see wildlife up close and personal and facilitated wildlife sightings as well as wildlife education. He also took pictures of us at the waterfall so we could enjoy a swim, which was so helpful and they turned out great. The waterfall was spectacular! So absolutely beautiful! Manuel was always staying a step ahead, staying in contact with the various guides and providers, ensuring our tour moved forward smoothly and efficiently. Great use of tour time! The rainforest tour was spectacular! There were multiple sightings of snakes, sloths and birds. We also saw a red eyed leaf frog. Our guide at the actual rainforest was phenomenal as well. He stayed in contact with the other guides at the rainforest, and they would all let each other know where all the animal sightings were and then we would move to that location. Our guide at the rainforest took photos with our individual cameras, zooming in and making the pictures for us to take home absolutely magnificent! I have basically national geographic photographs! The lunch that was provided was so delicious and in a beautiful location where you could enjoy your food and overlook the beautiful environment. The coffee and chocolate tour was terrific and so informative. It was FUN and educational! And then there were items you could buy that also supported their cause. We sampled coffee and hot chocolate which were delicious. The driving time to and from was not super long but a bit of a while. But along the way, we saw such beautiful Costa Rican nature, mountains, and lush greenery, all the while being educated by Manuel. We arrived back to our hotel at the time they said we would arrive. We finalized the day with a photograph of Manuel and us ... a great memento of our time together. It was a beautiful day and a tour that I would recommend to anyone, especially if you get Manuel as your tour guide! Thank you, Manuel and Viator, for this beautiful Costa Rican experience! Truly Pura Vida!

King David - We have used Viator across Europe and always enjoyed the trips. David who led this tour was another level above any tour we have taken. The trip started with a beautiful waterfall. You can swim and there are changing rooms if you choose. Next we went to the coffee/chocolate plantation. Our guide Andre cracked us up and we learned more about both than I acquired in 60 years! Next was the sloth tour which was amazing. We even saw some poisonous snakes! Stay on the path!! We had a nice local lunch, simple and representative of what locals eat. The drive back was about 1’20 and we told David the only thing missing was monkeys. 30 minutes from the hotel, David suddenly pulls over…he saw a family of Howler monkeys. What a day. If you want a great tour, make sure David is your guide.

Tour and attractions were awesome, but travel time was a bit ridiculous and unexpected - Ron was an incredible tour guide. Knew so much about the area and was genuinely just fun to hang out with. Even pulled over on the side of the road to check out some monkeys because he knew we were excited to see animals on our trip! The one caveat I will say is it’s essential you check in on how long the total travel time will be for the excursion. We were picked up in Tamarindo at 8:30am and didn’t get back until 7:20pm. Almost 11 hours!! Nonetheless, the attractions were wonderful but the overall experience would have been far better if knew how long the drive would be

Fun half day trip - We did this tour with tour guide Minor who was excellent. He was very friendly and helpful. We were a bit limited on the types of activities we could do with our 4 yr old and this excursion was definitely fun for all of us. The coffee and cacao portion was very yummy and interactive. We saw how they grew both beans and picked them. The rainforest sloth and frog tour was also very fun and we got to see many sloths, frogs and snakes. Tono at the sanctuary was very daring and helped all of us get some great shots of the animals. Lunch at the restaurant adjacent to the sanctuary was delicious, we chose the typical casado. All in all a great time.

Ok, bad, and ugly! - Overall, the experience was enjoyable and accomplished what it said it would. However, we only saw one waterfall with minimal time allotted. The coffee tour was informative but too fast, though our time there was limited as well. The coffee process was very interactive which allowed my 7 year old grand daughter to participate more. The fresh made hot chocolate with natural sugar cane was a nice treat. Lunch was acceptable and they were very cordial, especially when it came to serving extra hotdogs to my grand daughter. Didn’t appreciate the second hot dog coming out in the same bun we sent back. The sloth and frog tour was enjoyable though it too was fast. Having it were the restaurant was located was nice so we didn’t have to drive more. Now for the bad stuff. Our guide, though very informative was only 16 and didn’t really keep us moving as he should have. He didn’t give us any time limits for each stop so we didn’t feel the need to expedite when perhaps we should have. I’m certain this will get better with experience. The ugly stuff. Our driver was horrendous. I’m not certain she had much experience with a manual transmission which made for an uncomfortable ride. She would often go over the numerous speed bumps very quickly, and be so close to the car in front of us she would have never been able to stop. I’d give this aspect of the experience a no star rating.
