Rainbow Beach to Lake McKenzie, Pile Valley and Central Station
Rainbow Beach Tourist Centre - Our journey begins on the mainland with a morning briefing at Freedom Rainbow Beach. At 9:30, after the briefing and once we’re packed and ready, we set off for Fraser Island (K’Gari). A brief 10-minute drive takes us to the ferry, where we board for a short crossing to the World Heritage-listed Fraser Island, the largest sand island in the world! Upon arrival, we drive for about an hour to Eurong Resort along Fraser Island’s beach highway, the 75 Mile Beach, which has a speed limit of 80 km/49 mph. Here, you can grab a coffee and a snack for morning tea (at your own expense).
Lake McKenzie - Next, we head to the stunning Lake McKenzie, renowned for its breathtaking scenery and almost crystal-clear waters. We’ll have lunch here, with ample time to enjoy this Fraser Island gem by swimming and relaxing on the beach. After cooling off, we drive to our private campsite near the beach, where we’ll have an early dinner and share stories with new friends.
Eli Creek, Maheno Shipwreck, Champagne Pools
Eli Creek - We start the morning with a quick breakfast before embarking on an exciting second day on Fraser Island. Our first stop is Eli Creek, a beautiful, clear creek surrounded by tropical plants and wildlife, perfect for a relaxing swim.
Maheno Shipwreck - Next, we visit the Maheno shipwreck, where the SS Maheno ran aground in 1935. Here, you can take photos and learn a bit about the history of this famous Fraser Island landmark.
Hammerstone Sandblow, Lake Wabby, Return to Rainbow Beach
Lake Wabby - After breakfast, we pack up and clean our campsite before driving to the start of the Lake Wabby walk. You’ll have the opportunity to wander over impressive sand dunes to a tropical paradise! Following our visit to Lake Wabby, we have lunch and share stories of our favorite Fraser Island experiences. We then bid farewell to Fraser Island and begin our drive down the beach to the barge for boarding. Once back on the mainland, we head to the 4WD shed to unpack and give the cars a quick clean before returning to Freedom Rainbow Beach between 3 pm and 4 pm.
