Chi Lăng Market Chợ Tỉnh - The tour guide will pick up guests by car at their hotel between 7:30-8:00 am, heading to Lang Son. The journey begins with a drive towards the Chinese border, lasting about 3 hours, before pausing at Chi Lang Pass. This 20-km-long gorge is formed by a narrow valley nestled between two mountains.
This location holds significant importance in Vietnamese history, being the site of numerous victories against various Chinese invasions over the centuries, dating back to 981 AD. It is renowned as Vietnam’s strongest citadel and bastion. Visitors will have approximately an hour to explore the area around the Quy Mon Quan Gate, known as “The Gate of Monsters,” named for the many invading forces that passed through the pass only to be repelled by resilient Vietnamese defenders.
Dong Dang Secondary School - After enjoying lunch at a local restaurant in Dong Dang, the journey continues into the pass, with a stop to visit Mother’s Temple and Dong Khe – a significant historical site where The Battle of Dong Khe occurred during the First Indochina War. This was the inaugural battle of the Indochina Wars, with fighting taking place in September and October 1950, culminating in a decisive victory for the Viet Minh.
Bưu điện huyện Quảng Hòa - In the evening, guests will enjoy dinner and an overnight stay in a local homestay owned and operated by a Nung family.
Cao Bang – Ban Gioc Waterfall (B/L/D)
Ban Gioc Waterfall - Detian Falls - After breakfast at the homestay, the tour departs for Trung Khanh, located right on the border with China. Here, guests will have another opportunity to meet and interact with the local Nung people residing in the village of Phuoc Sen, a mountainous village renowned for its traditional blacksmithing. The farming tools crafted here are essential to the lifestyle, evident in the surrounding rice paddies and fields.
Amidst these stunning landscapes lies the breathtaking Ban Gioc Waterfall, spanning over 300 meters and divided equally between Vietnam and China. Visitors will have time to soak in the incredible atmosphere surrounding the falls, offering an excellent opportunity for fantastic photography.
Nguom Ngao Cave - After visiting the falls, the tour proceeds to Nguom Ngao Cave, a different yet equally impressive natural wonder. The cave extends for 2,144 meters underground, filled with remarkable stalactites and stalagmites.
Ba Be National Park - The tour then returns to Cao Bang town and heads down the “snake pass” to Ba Be Lake, where guests will stay overnight in a homestay built in traditional Tay style, owned and operated by a local Tay family. Here, guests can relax and unwind from the day and enjoy a delicious and authentic home-cooked meal.
Ba Be Lake - Hanoi (B/L)
Ba Be National Park - After breakfast, the final day of the tour begins with boarding a boat and setting off onto the lake. Guests can choose how to spend their time on the boat, whether relaxing and enjoying the views or swimming in the cool waters to refresh themselves. The views feature stunning karst formations covered with patches of wild vegetation and rich wildlife.
The boat continues along the Nang River, allowing guests to explore the caves of Puong Grotto, where they can marvel at the stalactites and stalagmites formed through river erosion, as well as observe the thousands-strong bat colony residing here.
As the tour concludes, guests will be driven approximately 230 kilometers back to Hanoi, with a stop at a tea plantation nestled among rolling hills. Arrival in Hanoi is around 05:00 – 05:30 pm.
Hanoi – Ha Long Bay (B/L/D)
Halong Bay - On the fourth day, the tour departs for Ha Long Bay around 8:00-8:30 for a 3.5-hour drive to Hong Gai Tourist Wharf, where guests will check in at Oriental Sails JSC’s private waiting hall, the OS Lounge. Here, guests can relax until embarkation around 12:30-13:00, followed by a quick briefing. The first few hours on-board are spent enjoying the views of the limestone islands of Bai Tu Long Bay and savoring a delectable lunch. At 15:30-16:30, guests can choose between two activities:
Option 1: Fishing village visit
For those interested in learning about local life in the bay, a bamboo rowing boat trip lasting roughly 45 minutes is available around Vung Vieng fishing village, one of the largest of its kind in Ha Long Bay. The village is set inside a closed lagoon, surrounded by mountains, making it a great place for photos in addition to the cultural experience.
Option 2: Beach and kayaking
For more active travelers and beach enthusiasts, a small boat will take guests to Ban Chan beach, where they can sunbathe, swim, play volleyball, or try kayaking in the magnificent setting of the bay.
Guests will return to the cruise around 16:30, with enough time to freshen up and relax before sunset. At 17:30, guests can enjoy happy hour at the bar on the sun deck, watching the sunset with a drink in hand, and participate in a cooking class with the resident Chef.
Dinner is served at 19:00, and the rest of the evening can be spent socializing with other guests, night squid fishing, or simply relaxing. There will also be singing and dancing activities until 22:00.
Overnight on-board with the ship anchored in the Cong Do Area of the bay.
Ha Long Bay - Hanoi (B/L)
Thien Canh Son Cave - Early risers can enjoy a 30-minute Tai Chi exercise on the sundeck at 06:30 before taking in the view of the surrounding seascape with breakfast as the cruise heads towards Thien Canh Son Cave. Arrival at the cave is at 9 am, with about half an hour to explore this medium-sized and less visited cave situated in Bai Tu Long Bay.
After the cave visit, it’s time to check out of the room on the boat and return to port, docking at noon after an early lunch on-board. The driver will be waiting at the pier to transfer guests back to Hanoi, arriving at their hotel around 16:30. At this point, it’s time to bid farewell to the guide, driver, and group, hopefully leaving with cherished memories and newfound friendships.
